Kitchen Remodel - part two

July 22, 2016

We have been very busy getting things done on the kitchen remodel. So far it has gone very smoothly! Here I am cutting the base cabinet with the saws-all. Great tool!

All the lower base cabinets are gone and the wall cabinets have all been stripped of their doors. Our home was built in 1956. It was updated in 1987 when the previous owners refaced the cabinets. I would say it was time for another update. =)

The floor is now finished!

We did the grouting this morning. We used Snapstone tiles, which is a floating tile. We really like this product!  The area with no tile, we will fill in with plywood to level the floor.

We are steadily getting things checked off the list and decisions made. We got the cabinetry ordered and picked out the paint color for the walls. =)

Next up, electrical! We are adding lighting above where the peninsula will be and a new light for above the kitchen sink. Lighting has been the hardest decision to make so far!! We are getting it narrowed down, but no final decision yet.

Morning comes early, so off to bed I go!!

Have a happy weekend, everyone!!

  5. No kneepads for Russ? (His knees will thank him in 20 years!)
I'm so glad you are getting to do this!
I'm thinking of pulling out all my carpet and putting in vinyl click together tiles that look like wood. (I've always hated this dirt-colored carpet, although it was good when there were little kids here.)
I'm so happy for you and your new kitchen and hoping it goes together very, very quickly!

  6. You will love your new kitchen. Our old house was built in 1956 too. We remodeled the kitchen in the late 70's and then had to redo them again in 2010 after a undiscovered leak seeped into the bottom cabinets after we moved. Our son lives there now, and the kitchen looks very nice and refreshed. It's a lot of work, but it is worth it in the end.

  11. It's looking good. You know, you just might have to cook (once or twice) in the kitchen, when it's finished.

  14. That's going to look incredible! Having just done (most) of our kitchen, I hear you about making those design choices - but once it's all done, you'll forget about those "discussions" and you'll just enjoy the finished kitchen!

  15. Your floor looks awesome. I love the scalloped piece of trim above your sink. That is one of my favorite things in a kitchen. The paint color is going to be so pretty and happy.

  17. Love the floor! We did tile a few years ago and it cracked in a line 3 tiles across all over. So annoying. Need to find something different to do with it.
