Crazy 4 Patch

March 31, 2010

I haven't had time to sew since I finished the John Deere quilt. I've have been itching to, but didn't have any plans or ideas. Today, I went through my fabric and found the left over pieces from Amanda's quilt and they were begging to be made into Crazy 4 Patches, as explained by Strandz.

I think they are cute!

Grrrr...

Due to spammers leaving disgusting links, I have changed the settings to moderate the comments before they are posted.  What a bummer...

Sweet boys

I spent the day gazing upon these two darling faces. ❤ Am I blessed or what!?

Mascara update

I have found my new mascara! Lash Exact in the waterproof formula. It held up to crying at church, which was my test.  I'm not sure the mascara will survive an ugly cry, but at that point, I won't be worried about wether or not the mascara survived. {wink}

I contacted Cover Girl and griped kindly explained about my disappointment in the discontinuing of their Marathon mascara. They thanked me for my input and sent me a coupon to try any of their products for free. Woot! Gotta love good customer service!

My lashes are happy again.

Grooming day

Clay is not impressed.

All 3 pups washed and groomed. None of them look too happy, huh?

For a dear friend's sister-in-law. This is my 2nd try at meandering.

I LOVE spring!

What do you think?

March 25, 2010

Edit: Yesterday was the last day of the chest being on sale. My hubby bought it for me! ❤ {sigh}

I'm always on the lookout for ideas on how to store things, whether it's in my office area or sewing area. I really, really don't like the plastic drawers. They are great and if I had my own sewing room, I would use them, but since my sewing room is the living room, I keep looking for something that is practical and still looks nice.

My hubby has started a new hobby of woodworking. Bless him. I have many projects lined up for him. {wink} This morning he showed me a Harbor Freight flyer with an oak workbench he was considering buying for himself. Right next to the picture of the workbench was this...

Ohhh....Wouldn't this be great for storing sewing notions? Now to convince my hubby that I need a tool chest. ❤

Not. One. Word.

Quilts for kids - 4

March 22, 2010

First, thank you all for being so encouraging with my efforts.

Ta-da!!! It's all finished and waiting to be sent back to the Quilts for Kids headquarters.

A look at the wonky spiral squares on the back of the quilt.

What a super fun project this turned out to be!

World Down Syndrome Day

March 21, 2010

Every year, on March 21 (to honor the 3rd copy of the 21st chromosome presented in Down syndrome), the world comes together to raise awareness and advocate for people living with Down syndrome.

The next time you see a person or child with DS, stop… take notice. That life is nothing short of a miracle. The termination rate for pregnancies with DS diagnosis is now up to 94%. That is staggering. So, not only are you seeing the blessing of a person with DS, [made closer to the image of God than the rest of us], you are seeing the miracle of a life that many are trying to completely eliminate… I believe, hand on heart, that the two points are most definitely related…(via the Poppies' Blog)
I was not blessed by God to be given a child with Down Syndrome, but I have been blessed to love someone with Down Syndrome.

Thank you, Nevin, for being my buddy, for teaching me how to love fully by your example and how to live life with gusto. I love you...Today and forever...

Quilt for Kids - 3

March 20, 2010

All the squares have their wonky spirals. I used Gutermann variegated thread for that part. I almost put a wonky spiral in each square of the 4 patch. I'm so glad I talked myself out that insanity!!

My Swappie sis Erin, came up with the perfect name for the quilt, "Make a Joyful Noise." I decided to machine embroidering the name on the small boarder all around the quilt. I think it's cute...

Next, I need to quilt the outside boarder and bind it.

This was a super fun project. I can practice my skills for {almost} free and bless a child, all at the same time.

Thanks, Laura, for sharing about Quilts for Kids!!

There is a great give-away over on Dawn's Quilts!

Quilts for Kids - 2

March 19, 2010

I'm in the pin basting phase. They ask to have the quilt quilted rather heavily since it goes through rigorous washes at the hospitals. I'm thinking wonky spiral squares like I did on Zeke's quilt.

I also need to name the quilt. Something about singing, I'm thinking. :o)

Quilts for Kids

March 18, 2010

My Quilts for Kids kit came this week. It's gonna be so cute! If I don't mess up the 4 patches, that is. {wink}

What's your style?

As I wander the web looking at all the talented quilters' quilts, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that everyone has their own style.

For example, I can go to a fabric store and pick out exactly what my mom would have liked. She liked Debbie Mum, country, and traditional style of quilt blocks. This picture is an example of what my mom liked. So not me by a long shot...I fully appreciate the more traditional quilts and the efforts it takes to make them. Truth be told, I am in awe of their work, it's just not me....

Here is more my style...

Crazy Mom Quilts I {heart} everything she has made! I want to be an Amy Jane/Amanda Jean.

I like brights, shabby-chic and vintage style fabrics. I have an impulsive bent in my personality. I also like to see results and see them yesterday. I am outgoing and a bit {a lot} quirky, however, I do have a quiet introspective side to my personality, as well....I like quilts with character, very untraditional, wonky, and fun...

I haven't fully decided if I will continue to do the pinwheel sampler quilt or not. I'd feel like a quitter, but truth be told...I am not having fun with them because I can't get them just right. Yes, I am a perfectionist, too, but these type of blocks require perfection, don't they? I mean, if the points don't meet in the middle, everyone knows you messed up. And everyone knows if I put a button in the middle, I am hiding the non-perfect points, right? Okay, I talked myself into doing the next one and trying again.

So, what's your style? How soon did you find your style?

Thank you...

My blog roll grows every day of very talented and generous quilters, who take the time to share, teach and support new wanna-be quilters like me. You do not go unnoticed nor are you unappreciated. :o)

Need new mascara

Okay, friends! I seriously need your help. I'm in search of a new mascara because Cover Girl decided to mess with a good thing and discontinue their Marathon Waterproof mascara. I've used this stuff for over 20 years and it is amazing! I can swim in it and sob my eyes out at church and still have mascara on my lashes. Not so now...I tried their suggested substitute. In a nutshell? Ugh. Unless you enjoy having smudges under your eyes. {sigh}

So...Do you wear waterproof mascara that works? Please let me know! My lashes will thank you. :o)

Fun Saturday

March 14, 2010

Rutabaga's Canoecopia was this last weekend. Rusty went up on Friday with some friends. I drove up with Naomi, a friend from church (who doesn't seem to mind that I could be her mother), on Saturday. Naomi and I spent a couple of hours looking around.  She at the kayaks, and I focused on buying the things I specifically came for, wicking t-shirts and some new Chacos {my feet are stylin'}.

Then the fun began. Naomi and I booked outta there and checked out the Goodwill stores! Woot! They have some super nice Goodwill stores in Madison. All the clothing was organized by color and size!! I was able to find some cute tops for this summer.

Okay...

Enough of that...Time for me to get to the point.

Look at these wonderful Fire King dishes in the Fleurette pattern I found! I gasped out loud when I saw them sitting on the shelf. I debated about a nano second on whether to just get one of each or the whole set....I'm glad I bought them all. I'm going to keep an eye out and see if I can collect more pieces off the set.

Two of the cups are smaller and more dainty. Its kind of hard to see by the picture, but the one on the left is smaller and different from the one on the right. I am assuming the smaller ones belong to the snack tray set.

Another treasure I found was this beautiful blue Pyrex divided dish with the lid. The color makes me happy.

Naomi and I have big plans to travel around to other cities to visit their Goodwill stores and other thrift shops. It's fun having a friend who loves to go as much as I do. :o)

You know? It's almost scary how much I am like my mom sometimes.
