You know you are sick...

May 18, 2014

...when you are too sick to sew!! That would be me. Thursday night I got hit with something that knocked me off my feet for the last several days. To top it off, I got a raging migraine last night. I am praying that I don't get a rebound migraine tonight. I am so thankful that I got sick after vacation and not during!!

Before the nasties came to visit, I was on a roll with the Aviatrix Medallion... The center of this quilt was way beyond my comfort zone and a very real challenge to get it put together. Lots of unsewing went on before I had it all figured out.

After such a challenging start, I chose to do the next two borders, since they were simple. Border 3 is more challenging. Not hard, just lots of pieces, so I am saving it for last.

These blocks are border 5. I really love the simplicity of them! I would love to make quilt using these two blocks someday. =)

Just before I got sick, I was working on border 6, the butterfly blocks. I do believe I feel well enough to turn on the machine and get back to work. At least for a little while. =)

Happy Sunday, everyone!!

Reorganizing

January 28, 2013

I have been spending the last week reorganizing my home. I am making progress and the hard work has been worth it.

First up, the blue room (my former sewing room) is now were my long arm lives. I have much to do in here, but my first priority was to get my bedroom back.

With the long arm out of here, I could rearrange my room and get rid of the dust raccoons that were living in here. Now my room feels like a restful place to be.

Next up will be the living room. It needs a fresh coat of paint and some rearranging. We spent all day Saturday going through papers, cleaning out drawers and the hutches. Boy, can things pile up! Yikes! I looked at the things I own and made decisions on what can stay because I love it and what could move on for someone else to love. Most went to my daughter, Haley, to pretty up her house.

Sunday brought us freezing rain and a migraine. Sometimes weather can trigger one for me. It was a stay in bed, sleep all day migraine. =( It's been a while since that has happened.

That's what has been happening here. Tomorrow is my day to share my Dare to Dresden project. I hope you stop back to see me then. =)

ER last night

July 6, 2012

Nothing serious. Just a migraine that needed help to go away. They gave me an IV cocktail. I was too out of it to know what was in it. Russ knows. I still have a mild one today, so that would be why I am not visiting your blogs or responding to comments.

Time to go rest again.

Zzzzzzzz.....

Pound{s} cake

June 8, 2011

{Posted with permission}

It's been a rough week in our home. It usually is when I am down with a migraine, but it was made even more so difficult because of the extra activities that this week held...Reagan's first week of driver's ed class, Russ getting ready for his annual kayaking trip and the first Tuesday of the month which is the nursing home birthday party. Because I was non-functioning, Russ had to get the balloons, Mitchell took care of the birthday cards and the cake I was supposed to make for the party fell into Reagan's to-do list.

Here is Reagan's "cake."

Yes, it weighs over 6 pounds.

That's because Reagan thought two brownie mixes would equal 1 chocolate cake.

He gets brownie points for trying. =)

Anyone hungry? We have plenty to share.

Days gone by...

June 15, 2010

Summer always brings about a level of business that prevents me from being here, though that is not a bad thing, I think. I need the sunshine and the warmth. I need to smell the scent of the flowers blooming and see the beauty of their colors.

I wish I could say I have been enjoying those things in the last few days, but the truth is I was in bed for two days with a major migraine. The praise? It's been a whole year since I have had one that bad.

Yesterday was my re-cooperate day. It takes my brain a day to settle down after a migraine. My boys were so kind to find other things to do and basically left me to have the house to myself so I could have quiet and rest. They were never far away if I needed them. I do love my boys who are growing up to be men right before my eyes....

Have a blessed day, everyone!

Migraine anyone?

June 14, 2010

My migraine began Friday night. I slept all weekend...Yup, all weekend. Okay, I got up a couple of times to eat a small bit and then I was back in bed to sleep. I find it amazing that a person can sleep for days, but I am proof that it can be done...It's been over a year since I have had a bad one like this one was.

Today, it's rainy and cool outside. My brain is trying to recover, but thinking is still rather tricky. The coffee tastes good.

Here is where I left off on my latest project. I'll be adding white Kona cotton next. Maybe today...Maybe not. Depends if my brain will cooperate. =)

My sister-in-law's chiropractor to the rescue

May 14, 2009

My sis-in-law has been trying to get me to go to her chiropractor for over a year to get help for my migraines. I finally agreed and today was my first visit. Now, he is a very nice man and loves Jesus, but I am fairly sure there is some seriousness quackiness going on.

He did some strength tests. He would push down on my arm and I was told to resist as he touched different pressure points. There were several times when my arm would drop like a stone! He said my thyroid was low and my adrenal gland wasn't working right, as well as a couple other things, however, I will not share that information, thank-you-very-much. My neck is very tight, as well. He ordered a few x-rays and asked me to come back on Monday.

Now this is going to be interesting!!

My Doctor to the rescue!

May 13, 2009

I am on a new to me medication for high blood pressure that is supposed to help prevent migraines. I confess that I was very relieved when she assured me that I didn't have Alzheimer's, a brain tumor or something equally as alarming. Much of my forgetfulness is due to stress, the migraines and anxiety. The bonus with the new medication is that it's often used to relieve performance anxiety. If it helps my migraines and anxiety, that would be awesome! She did warn me that it could make me sleepy for a time until I adjust to it, so last night, I crawled into bed ready to get a good nights sleep. Being the ever contrary one, I ended up not being able to sleep. It's a cloudy rainy day, so a nap, or two, is in the plans today. :o)

Migraine update

May 9, 2009

Russ took me to the ER today, I didn't actually go in. By the time I got there, the 2nd dose of .75 mg of Xanax kicked in and I fell asleep. This was arond 1:30 this afternoon. Russ drove me back home and I slept in the car until 7:00 tonight, came in the house and slept again until 9:00 tonight.

It was the worst migraine I have had to date. One more acupuncture visit to go and if that doesn't work, I'm trying a chiropractor. If that doesn't work, I guess finding a neurologist would be a plan....I have my annual doctor visit at the end of this month, so I can discuss my options.

I scared my family today with my crying... *sad*

Marcy, where do I find ginger root pills? I'd like to have those on hand, too.

Migraine...again.

*sigh* Looks like I am not going to be doing any gardening today with my friends. I am so disappointed. :o(

Randomness

May 7, 2009

The next few days will be telling on how the acupuncture is working to keep my migraines away. I did have a slight one last week. It's progress that it didn't go full blown and the recovery time was quicker. The slight one I had yesterday is gone. I hope it stays gone! Like I said, the next few days will be telling....

Tonight, I am going to Jenny's, (Count it all Joy) house and we are going to work on her front yard flower garden. First things first, ripping out the evergreen bushes. Rusty is going to use the truck to pull them out. I'll take lots of pictures. :o)

School is almost done. Reagan only has a few assignments left in math. He should be done at the end of this week or early next week. Mitchell is done for the year. Yeah! Though it can be exhausting and time consuming to homeschool the boys, I am so glad I do. I feel like I lost out on so much of Haley and Holden's life because they were gone so much.

Gotta run and get my day started...I'll be back later with my Things In My House Thursday post. :o)

Acupuncture x's 2

May 6, 2009

I had my second acupuncture appointment today. I went alone, so no pictures. I have one more to go. I woke up with a slight migraine this morning, however I decided to hold off on taking my migraine medication to see if the acupuncture treatment today will help keep it from going full blown.

Slept most of the day

April 29, 2009

I woke up with the beginnings of a migraine this morning. I stayed in bed until 11:30 and took a two and a half hour nap this afternoon. I'm hoping I can sleep tonight!

My first acupuncture visit

April 13, 2009

I had my first visit today to help with my migraines. I need to go in a few more times. This first time, I had to go in the middle of one. I can't drive or talk coherently in the middle of a migraine, and this one was BAD one!! Russ took me, filled out the paper work and answered most other questions. The doctor was so kind. He took one look at the back of my neck and said it was obvious it was a very bad one because my neck was so tight.

I forgot my camera....Next time, I'm taking one. ;)

It didn't help right away...He said it could take a couple of hours to take affect and told me go home, take my migraine medicine and rest. I slept all afternoon and woke up pain-free, though I am groggy from the medicine I took to help me sleep.

Next time I need to go in before my cycle and before the pain hits.

I am so far behind on my blog replying. I read all the posts over the last few days, I just couldn't respond. Rest assured, I am impressed with the bird pictures, the quilt studios, the moving piece on Easter from the perspective of different years....And so much more....

Time for drastic measures

March 20, 2009

Thank you all for praying for me. :o) It means so much to me...

Okay, I am now ready to do something proactive about these stupid migraines. What I do now when I'm getting a migraine is to take Frova to help stop it, however I don't get warnings before my migraines hit and taking it after the pain has already begun helps stop the pain only about 50% of the time. I usually end up taking extra Xanax to make me sleep through the pain. I slept until 3:00 pm yesterday. :o( It's a good thing my boys are old enough to care for themselves. I don't know what I'd do if I had little ones to care for.

Desperate times call for drastic measures. I am going to try acupuncture. I've had three people tell me to give it a try in the last month. After this last migraine, which was a VERY bad one, I am ready to do something.
I called the doctor's office about coming in for treatments. They told me to call for an appointment the next time I have a migraine, which means I need to try to talk coherently enough to make an appointment and get someone to drive me. That will be tricky! *wink* The talking coherently part, not getting someone to drive me. I'm sure someone will take me. :o)

I'll keep you posted on this new adventure I will be undertaking.

Migraine...again.

Migraine....Day 3

Black Friday and stuff

November 28, 2008

Hubz is doing the Black Friday runs since I still have this pesky migraine. I know it's from the varnish fumes AND there is more varnishing to do...The trim for the windows and the base boards.

But look at how gorgeous the floor turned out! I am amazed!! It will be so nice to have the whole house done, now that we can see what a little hard work can produce. It's so worth it!!

Varnish headache

November 26, 2008

The floors may look pretty, but the fumes are causing me to have a migraine. I am in the dungeon basement, trying to avoid the fumes as much as possible.

Instead of redoing all my floors in the house, which has always been my dream, I am now thinking that carpet is my friend...Or, I could spend a few weeks in a hotel while the varnish cures. That could work! *wink*

'Nuther migraine

September 27, 2008

I am babying myself big time today. I don't want a repeat of the last migraine I had.
