Remember Castle Peeps?

October 30, 2010

I've been given the go-ahead to show the Castle Peeps quilt I made with Casey this last summer. It's so close to being done!

Casey did all the designing and math. I did most of the sewing and cutting.

What do you think?

Are you a No-Reply blogger?

October 29, 2010

I do my very, very best to respond to everyone who leaves a comment on my blogs, even if it may take me a day or two, however, there are a few who I am unable to respond to. Why? The settings on your profile are not set to (show my email address). This would make you a No-Reply friend. It makes me sad because I want to reply to you. Truly! I do!

Since I am not into reinventing the wheel,  Jodi @ Pleasant Home wrote a great blog post on this very topic explaining the how's and the why's you want to have your email address be shown and shares how to set your email up so the world doesn't have your main email address.

If it makes you feel any better, I was a No-Reply Blogger and a kind friend explained to me how to change the setting so they could contact me when I posted on their blog. It was a change I am glad I made.

Till next time!

Scrap Tub

October 27, 2010

Now that I am in my own room and not sewing in the living room, I found myself wanting to toss my scraps in a spot to sort out later. Then came my "brilliant" idea.

I need a scrap bucket.

More like a galvanized tub I bought at a garage sale two years ago.

I love the dent...

Now that I am getting pretty good with paint, getting rid of the rusty interior was easy to solve.

*I could kick myself for not taking before pictures. Given I am not into inflicting pain on myself, I won't. ;-)*

The fabric needs a few more coats of Modge-Podge. I tied the bows on the handles because the clanking noise they made was annoying!

I am might add some rickrack to the top edge of the fabric. Not sure about that, yet. I welcome any suggestions or ideas.

When it's done, it will be on the floor next to the cutting table. I will be free to cut and toss at will. I feel so liberated!

I'm linking up with Whatever You Want Wednesday!

Charming Stars...The beginning

October 26, 2010

Charming Stars is a fun quilt to make and it goes together quickly!

As I was cutting off the bits, I thought it wouldn't hurt to try to save them.

I pined them before I cut them off to help them stay together until I could sew them together.

They sewed up fairly easily, for being so small. I hate to see even the smallest piece of fabric go to waste when it's a line I really love. And I love this line...

First block done!

It's only just begun....Can you tell I have been listening to The Carpenter's lately?

Charming Stars Quilt

October 25, 2010

Did you see the Charming Stars Quilt on the Moda Bakeshop blog last week? It was created by the very talented Stefanie from Little Lady Patchwork. The instant I saw it, I knew I wanted to make it and there was no doubt what charm packs I wanted to use for this project....

I ordered the charm packs from Beverly's  on Friday and I got them in the mail today! Not only that, they were less than $5 a pack!! Wowza!

Lord willing, I will start the quilt this week. ❤

New addition

Just in case you didn't hear my squeals of excitement on Saturday, I want to introduce you to the new addition to my sewing room. An Accuquilt GO!

No, I didn't win one, though I tried and tried. I did an extensive Google search and found one for a very good price.

How do I like it?

Amazing.

Fabulous.

Stupendous.

So much so, I ordered 2 more dies.

The dies I thought I would want to purchase as I was considering buying the GO! all these months aren't the ones I decided to buy first after using my GO! this weekend. I was sure I would want the 5" square die to make charms. I passed on that one for now. What I love using the GO! for is the triangles to make stars and pinwheels.

That's when I get to:

Love. It. ❤

DIY: Moda Ribbon Board

October 20, 2010

A couple of years ago, I made a French ribbon board. My office has changed looks a lot since then, but one thing has stayed, my french ribbon board. I love it...

Fast foreword to yesterday. I needed some Goodwill therapy and look at what was waiting for me.

And what could be more perfect for my sewing room than to use than the Moda ribbons I have been collecting to make a french ribbon board. Woot!

I confess, I imagined I was demonstrating a Moda Bake Shop project...

and then got over myself. *grin*

First up was to transform the green frame into white. Spray paint has become a new best friend in recent weeks. While the frame was drying I began on the board itself.

My first decision was what fabric to use to cover the board. I briefly  entertained the thought of using some of my Moda fabric I have tucked away, but quickly dismissed that idea. I can always change my mind later, but the thought of using such pretty fabric on the board and then covering it with pictures and such, seemed silly. I also wanted the ribbons to stand out and not get lost on pretty, yet busy, fabric, so I settled on a light pink bed sheet salvaged from, where else, Goodwill.

I didn't have quite enough of the Moda ribbons, even after removing it from my Tula Pink Plume jelly roll and my Chloe's Closet Happy Daisy fat quarter bundle I had tucked away. (Sorry about the blurriness of my picture.)

I purchased some 1" cotton twill, folded it in half and sewed a decorative stitch down the center.

It took some time to get the placement just right.

Once all the ribbons found their place and were secured with staples, I added the simple furniture tacks to the places where the ribbons cross.

Replaced the newly painted frame and it's done! The project cost less than $15. Gotta love that!

Rainbows and Bliss

What else is there to say? =)

Farmer Boy

October 16, 2010

Or should I say, Farmer Man. Seriously. He grew up this week!

The grand tour of the farm started with his favorite, the horses. He knows how to ride, saddle, and groom the horses.

Tinker was Mitchell's horse.

Sweet sheep...

Calling the cows so we can meet them...He named them all.

Mitchell took turns giving Reagan, his dad and I a ride on the 4 wheeler. After his ride, Russ said he would rather be in the driving seat. LOL!

Snickers did his tricks for the yummy cheese Mitchell had for him.

Not a great picture of the dog, but the look on the face of this son of mine makes my heart melt.

Mitchell with his new friends...Chris, Burdean and Dudley. I think he would go live with them and come home only for the weekends, even though he was woken up one morning by the sound of a sting of fire crackers going off under his bedroom window. Seriously. He didn't want to leave. Can't say that I blame him. Living and working on a farm is a perfect environment for a growing young man. I am thrilled he had this experience and I hope he has many more days on the farm with the Grabers.

On the way home, I looked in the mirror and saw this...I guess they wore him out.

Blue birds in my window

October 15, 2010

Years ago, I asked for an old window from my husband's parents farm. They thought I was nuts for asking for the old thing, however, I am used to them thinking I am a bit nutty. I know they love me and I keep life interesting for them. That's what I keep telling myself, at least. =)

Then....

And now...

The two embroidered panels I did several years ago and I never could decide what to do with them. Putting them in the window was perfect! The other two panels are vintage pictures I printed on fabric. I iron freezer paper on fabric and then send through my ink jet printer. I found the pictures from

Make sure you check out Keren's blog. It's amazing and so fun. I need to explore it more myself. I have a feeling there are a lot of treasures to be found there.

Have a great weekend!
