My Juki is here!

April 30, 2010

It's amazing and I love it...Even though I have only sewn a few short seams on scrap fabric. Why only a few seams? Because as much as I was looking forward to trying it out, I had more important things to do today...

Cuddle a baby.

Follow a toddler.

Give a young mom a break.

Because people are more important than things.

I'll post a review and pictures soon... :-)

Woot!

We have a winner!!

Thank you all for your comments and support. I feel thoroughly sheepish {pun intended}.

The winner of my very first give-away ever...{And I must confess, I have no idea why it took me so long! It's been fun!}...is my new friend, Dawn N! {confetti flying}

Send me your address, Dawn, and I will get your fat quarters and yardage out to you ASAP. ❤

Anxiety

April 27, 2010

For me, the worst part of being anxious, is not knowing why I am anxious. It's hard on my family because they want to fix whatever it is that is causing my anxiety.

I long for the day when this flesh will be replaced with a glorified body. Perfect in every way... In the meantime, I praise Him...

Edit number 2: I am feeling sheepish. {ha!} No one is coming close to what I see as glaring goofs. I will confess tomorrow. The give-away will stay the same. All you have to do to win is post a comment.

At this time, I have 5 fat quarters set aside waiting for a new home. ❤

Edit to add...If no one can figure it out, I still want to give away the fat quarters so leave a comment by Thursday at midnight CST and I will draw a winner on Friday morning. Sound good??

❉❉❉❉❉❉❉❉❉❉

Today, I am in a much better place concerning the quilt, however, I will confess...I did cry last night. I need to get over myself. Seriously!!

Here is the deal...I will show you pictures of my quilt. There are {two things} that made me cry. The {first person to comment naming the two things} will win a fat quarter each of these two fabrics...I'll probably toss in other surprises, as well, knowing me.

Here you go:

Need an adjustment

Today was not the best day when it comes to my attitude and behavior. Sad to say, but it's true. It's days like these that I am grateful for His grace and that His mercy is new every morning...I'm also grateful to have friends who tell me the truth in love, even though its hard to hear.

Laugh or cry?

April 26, 2010

Hint: It has to do with this quilt. Full disclosure of my idiocy tomorrow.

Early Anniversary gift

April 24, 2010

This August, Russ and I will be celebrating 10 years of wedded bliss. ❤ {sigh}

Look at what he bought for me today! A Juki TL98Q Professional. Wowza...I can't wait for it to get here!

Warning! Rant ahead....

There is a Viking dealer across town. I went to the store last week and looked around. I own a Viking, so it's natural that would be my first stop. Here is the deal. If I go to a store and get ignored for over 15 minutes and as an after thought, one of the workers interrupts her conversation with another worker to say, "Oh, did you need help with anything?" I won't buy...Just sayin'. :-/

I guess while I am being cranky, the same goes to the LQS in town that will not lower themselves to talk to me when I come in the store. No Bernina for me.

Rant over...

I should have this as-of-now-unnamed-quilt done today. :o)

Bags are done! Whew...

April 22, 2010

It feels great having these two bags all finished. They turned out really cute and much better than my first ones did a few months ago. I tried taking a picture of the pockets on the inside, but the pictures kept turning out all goofy, so I spared your eyesight and my pride by not posting them. I hope the recipients I made them for like them. I was told I could do whatever I wanted, so I did. =D

Garage sale season is in full swing. Look at the beauties I have added to my stash...The blue flowered pillowcase on the far left is my favorite. It's 100% cotton crispiness. I was thrilled to find 2 pillowcases and 2 top sheets of the fabric.

I'm thinking I need to not be stingy and share the wealth, so to speak, one of these days. {smile}

Lera needs a family...NOW!

Is it you? There is a $10,000 grant towards her adoption.

For information on this darling little girl go to Reece's Rainbow

Please join me in prayer for little Lera, that God will bring her a family very soon....

What's your excuse now, Mister?

April 21, 2010

I asked Mitchell to mow the yard today. He mowed the backyard and convinced me the front yard didn't need it. His reasoning...

"Mom, I checked and it's the same length as the neighbors, so it's fine."

The neighbor is now mowing his yard.

Yoo hoo! Mitchell!!!! The lawn needs mowed! {giggle}

All Cut and Ready to Sew

Proof I did get something done on my to-do list yesterday. All the pieces for the two diaper bags are cut and have the interfacing ironed on. Can you hear them mocking me? Time for me to get busy and get them all sewn up!

The great tutorial for this bag is found at Sew Much Ado

Sheet from Judy

April 20, 2010

Look at the beauty that was waiting for me at Virginia's house. Judy found it and blessed me with it.

I ❤ it!

Procrastination

Procrastination is my middle name and I am very good at it. In fact, if there were an Olympic sport of procrastination, I would win a gold for sure! However, if I want to do the things I want to do, I need to get the things done that I need to get done...So, my goals this week are to get Haley's table runner quilted and bound, her mother-in-love's quilt quilted and bound and the two diaper bags made. Starting today...After I pick up some vintage sheets from Casey and after visiting with Virginia....

I'm hopeless....

Love to learn

Do you  love to learn? That was one of my main goals as a homeschooling mom was for my kids to love to learn. If I had to rate my success, I would say, with God's grace, I was successful in that area. It was quite easy, actually, because I love to learn and they have watched me get excited about learning new things.

A couple of years ago, it was learning about web site design and then learning how to manipulate my blog. It's not unusual to see me studying the source codes of web sites so I can see how they do the things they do on their web sites. I think it's interesting. I went on to learn a bit about Photoshop Elements. I have so much more to learn in all those areas and I continue to pick things up here and there.

More recently, my children watched  me learn how to sew and quilt, which has been such a thrill. I feel like I am finally in my element and I often wonder what took me so long to start!

Now, I have another new thing I am going to learn, thanks to a dear friend at church....Judy, and she knows how to make soap. I've always wanted to learn that skill!

Next thing you know, I will be a wheat grinding, herb growing, yogurt making momma...Not...But you never know. {wink}

My vintage sheets

April 19, 2010

I don't have many and a couple aren't vintage, but I liked them. For example, the first pillowcase in the 2nd row. My favorite one in this picture would have to be the pillowcase in top row far right. And as I say that, I must confess that I love them all...

I almost hate to cut them....Even though a couple of these sheets have holes that were repaired in areas and will need to be fussy cut. I will be brave and cut them sometime. Some I will leave whole to use as a quilt backing, however.

We had this one when I was growing up. It's so buttery soft. I was able to score two of them at a thrift shop.

With spring here and people cleaning out their closets, I hope to get more as they make their way into the thrift stores.

The Vintage Sheet grand-opening

April 18, 2010

Jen @The Vintage Sheet  is having a give-away to celebrate her grand-opening of her new blog!

I've been collecting vintage sheets for some time now, but haven't done anything with them yet. Looking around her blog is giving me some great ideas!

Next week, I'll post pictures of the vintage sheets I have collected.

Happy Sunday!

Hard lotion bar...It's a winner!

April 17, 2010

I got my order in the mail yesterday. I LOVE it!! The lip balm is fabulous, too!

Thanks, Elizabeth @ Houseful of Joy, for sharing about this fantastic product!

Who was she?

Photobucket

I found the dress at the Salvation Army last night. I can't help but wonder who the woman was who wore it.

I took over 20 pictures to try to get one that would capture the color, but never succeeded. It's a green color, not blue. Someday, this fabric will wind up in a quilt. It fits perfect with the 1930's reproduction fabric lines that are out there. At least, I think so.

Information about my dress from Sandi:

...the dress is definitely an older style pattern. However, the fabric might not be that old. When I looked at the photo with the design close-up, I could really see it....What you'll find is that the little hearts really didn't show up til the 70's and 80's. This is what makes me think that your dress is likely from the 70's but made with an older pattern...

I thank Sandy for her input!! She is definitely more knowledgeable than I am! {grin}
