Alone Yet Not Alone

January 26, 2014

Beautiful song sung by Joni Eareckson Tada.  May it be an encouragement to you all today...

My praise for this day is how God has shown us He tenderly loves and cares of us. Our furnace died yesterday and it needs to be replaced. I put the word out on Facebook and God's people came flying out of the woodwork to offer us space heaters and a place to sleep if needed. Our home is toasty warm and will stay that way until next week when the new furnace is back in place.

Our hearts are warmed by the love and care of Almighty God...

Share the bloggy love

January 20, 2014

Karen@ In The Sewing Basket allowed me to give her a blog a makeover. =) There are some parts that aren't finished yet, but she will get to that eventually. Go check it out, leave her some bloggy love and let me know what you think. =)

Thank you, Karen, for letting me play with your blog. =)

Spoonflower

January 17, 2014

My Spoonflower order came! I am absolutely thrilled with my new quilt labels!

The ruler can give you an idea of how big I made them. One yard of fabric resulted in 49 labels. That ought to last me for a while. ;-)

Now I want to design another yard of fabric. Maybe with our family names in different fonts or quilting words or something. I adore text fabric. I am officially hooked...

Wake Up to Kona Solids!!

January 16, 2014

Welcome, blog hoppers!!!

Before I show you my project with the lovely Kona fabric, I want to thank Madame Samm, who organizes these great blog hops for us and to Carol, our tireless cheerleader...Seriously, they are the BEST! *pom poms waving*

Also, a heartfelt thank you to the sponsors of this hop,  Amanda Murphy,   Robert Kaufman and Aurifil.

Hasn't this been an amazing blog hop so far? I have been so inspired by all the talent and creativity that has been showcased so far. How about you? =)

When Madame Samm announced a Kona solid blog hop, I was all over this one! I have had in my stash this lovely bright pallet Kona jelly roll for several months all I needed was a reason to use it. =)

I decided to jump in with both feet and go all out with this one and mass produce half square triangles using the tutorial by Carole @ Quilting Adventures A total of 44  2 ½" strips (3 colors from my stash of Kona I had that were not included in the jelly roll) were paired with 2 ½" strips of Kona snow.

They are so pretty!

I made a makeshift design wall using my portable craft table leaning against my window with a piece of cotton batting. My hubby and I played with them until we decided on this pattern. I  love that he is interested in my hobby and fully supports it. =)

Again, the riot of color was so pretty, I had to take more pictures. Trust me, I have tons more pictures, but I restrained myself from showing them all.

Quilting in progress....

How many half square triangles do you see?? 784! I can't remember now how many I had made in total.

I really love it!!!

The quilt measures 64 ½" x 64 ½". A nice lap size for cuddling with.

Simple straight line quilting...

And the back...All in Kona solids with 4 orphan blocks.

With the leftover half square triangles, I made a quilted pillow cover using Lynne's tutorial. It is my favorite way to make pillow covers.

I hope you enjoyed your visit to my little corner of the blog world. =) Be sure to go visit the other creative projects that are being showcased today. =)

Have a happy Thursday, everyone!!

My Happy Place

January 15, 2014

My new door hanging is all finished. =)!!

I keep Command Strip products in business. I use them all the time. This is a perfect example. I don't want to put nail holes in the door, so I bought the small plastic hooks..

...add a couple of safety pins on the back of the quilt...

...and hang it up. =)

I hope to see you all tomorrow for my day in the Wake Up to Kona blog hop. I can't wait to share my project!!

Have a Happy Wednesday!!

Progress on paper piecing project

January 13, 2014

The "S" look terrible and so I had to put the project away for a couple of days. They were really hard and had 5 parts to them. *sigh*

No tears allowed, so I decided to change what I wanted my wall hanging to say...I like it much better now.

Next up, I want to add a boarder to add more design. I thought about prairie points, rick rack and then I decided on paper piecing square in squares. I searched Google for a pattern and used Photoshop to resize it.  I drew new lines to get the ¼" seam allowance since I don't know how to do that with Photoshop.

They will finish at around 2". They are so cute!

Thursday is my day to share my Wake Up to Kona blog hop project. I hope you will stop by to see what I made. I have had it done for weeks now and I am really exited to finally be able to show you. =) And if you haven't already, make sure you go check out what the other bloggers have made. You can find the schedule listed on Carol's blog. They will inspire you for sure!!

Till next time! =)

Paper Piecing mood

January 10, 2014

I am in the mood to paper piece today. =)

I have wanted to make a small wall hanging for my sewing room for a long time now. I found the darling sewing machine template at Ellison Lane and now I want to add words, thus paper piecing. The pattern for the alphabet by Diane Bohn can be found on Craftsy

I also placed my first order with Spoonflower last night. I have wanted to make quilt labels to sew into the backing for a long time. When it gets here, I will show you. =)

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Denim Quilt

January 8, 2014

Hey!!! It's final above zero here, so I could get some semi decent pictures of Mitchell's denim quilt....3° actually feels warm! How crazy is that!

Here is the back...That would be Holden wearing his Wylie Coyote hat holding the quilt for me. =)

I put his initials on using frayed edge appliqué. Can you guess what gaming system he is obsessed with? That was his idea for me to put on the quilt. =)

He likes it and that makes this momma very happy....

First Quilt of 2014...The beginning

January 4, 2014

Mitchell has been waiting patiently for over a year for me to make him a quilt. I couldn't come up with how I wanted to make it, so I kept putting it off. The other day he told me he wanted his quilt to be heavy, like the denim rag quilt I made when I first started quilting. Mitchell has Sensory Processing Disorder, so the deep pressure of weight is calming for him. That gave me the idea on what I wanted to do and I went to town....

Las year I bought two fat quarter bundles of Fossil Fern fabric at Craftsy when they went on sale at a deep discount. Yay!

Flying Geese anyone? =) I made them the super easy way using one seam. These went together super fast!! There are a lot of tutorials on how to make them on line, but the one I followed was the instructions from The Crafty Quilter. She also has a great chart for different sizes, as well. Yay for someone else doing the math for me!

Because I am using denim for this quilt, I made my seam allowances at ½ inch and pressed them open to minimize bulk.

Since this last picture, I have made the quilt bigger and personalized it for Mitchell, but I will share after I get the quilting done. That starts today!

Once thing about denim quilts, they are heavy and my shoulders were feeling it this morning. Ouch! Anything for my boy, right? =)

Last Quilt of 2013

January 1, 2014

As you know, making truly scrappy quilts is difficult for me. Controlled scrappy I can do. Last year, I made some truly scrappy blocks out of my scrap box and then put them away. I wasn't sure I was going to like what was going on with them. The other day, I drug them out and put them together. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? This was the end result....

Since it wasn't an overly large quilt at 60" x 60", I chose to quilt it using concentric circles.

The texture is amazing!

This little lady has already found a home with Holden's friend, a young gal who is moving back home to Arkansas soon.

My goal this year is to let loose and do more scrappy quilts with my left overs. Starting today!

Happy New Year, everyone!!!

My New Year's Resolution...

A New Year's Resolution

(Matthew Henry)

"My times are in Your hand!" Psalm 31:15

Firmly believing that my times are in God's hand, I here submit myself and all my affairs for the ensuing year, to the wise and gracious disposal of God's divine providence. Whether God appoints for me . . . .
  health or sickness,
  peace or trouble,
  comforts or crosses,
  life or death--
may His holy will be done!

All my time, strength, and service, I devote to the honor of the Lord Jesus--and even my common actions. It is my earnest expectation, hope, and desire, my constant aim and endeavor--that Jesus Christ may be magnified in me.

In everything I have to do--my entire dependence is upon Jesus Christ for strength. And whatever I do in word or deed, I desire to do all in His name, to make Him my Alpha and Omega. I have all from Him--and I would use all for Him.

If this should prove a year of affliction, a sorrowful year to me--I will fetch all my supports and comforts from the Lord Jesus and stay myself upon Him, His everlasting consolations, and the good hope I have in Him through grace.
And if it should be my dying year--then my times are in the hand of the Lord Jesus. And with a humble reliance upon His mediation, I would venture into the eternal world looking for the blessed hope. Dying as well as living--Jesus Christ will, I trust, be gain and advantage to me.

Oh, that the grace of God may be sufficient for me, to keep me always a humble sense of my own unworthiness, weakness, folly, and infirmity--together with a humble dependence upon the Lord Jesus Christ for both righteousness and strength.

Have a Happy New Year....
