Precious Handiwork

June 29, 2010

On Saturday, a dear saint in the Lord from our church, Mildred Frantz, was laid to rest. I had no idea she was an avid quilter. The whole church was filled with her beautiful work. I stole borrowed a camera and took a few pictures so I could share them here with you...All hand quilted. No rotary cutters. Amazing. I later found our her husband would cut all the pieces out for his wife. They enjoyed that pastime together during the cold winter months. It makes the quilts all that more precious to me.

I took mostly pictures of blocks, because I was fascinated on how they were made and wanted to study them later.

The hexagon one is my favorite! {sigh}

This one is my other favorite. I love the fabric choices and colors.

A close up of her work...

Found one more picture...Now I have got to go! VBS is this week and I am on nursery duty with 12 babies under the age of 2!

Make Life Disappearing 9 Patch

June 22, 2010

Michelle @ Life On Vine suggested using the Disappearing 9 Patch pattern for my charms. I am very glad I listened to her. I think it turned out darling!!

At first I considered sashing my blocks...

I decided against. Too lazy, if truth be told.

I used the 3 extra charms cut into fourths to add to the denim border.

Playing with charms

I have no set in stone plans for them. I'm just going to go with it and see what happens. I'm thinking about adding denim to the mix.

Rest in peace, Peeper Piper...Thanks for being our friend.

To Quilt Dad and Crazy Mom Quilts...

I owe a {huge apology} to two of my favorite quilters, Quilt Dad and Crazy Mom Quilts. I realized this morning that I neglected to share that it was their {amazing} work I used as an inspiration for my Simply Sweet quilt. I used Quilt Dad's tutorial for Wonky Square-in-Square and this photo of "sue likes blue" by Crazy Mom Quilts.

Yes, I could have edited my post and added their credits, however, I am so hyper-serious about not ever claiming credit where it's not due, that this apology required a post all on its own.

{nervously clearing throat}

Mr. Quilt Dad, Sir... and Mrs. Crazy Mom Quilts, Ma'am...I am so very, very sorry for not giving you credit on my earlier posts and I { sincerely} thank you from the bottom of my heart, for sharing your {amazing} talents with all of us in the blog world.

Kona Cotton Color Card

June 17, 2010

Boy, that is a mouthful!

Kona Cotton Color Card....

Say that three times fast.

I'll wait... =)

After considering and then reconsidering a dozen times, I bought one.

I found it at Canton Village Quilt Works for a reasonable price. Hurry, they only have 4 left!

Can't wait for it to get here!

The baby is cuter, don't you think?

Minor surgery

Well, sort of...I got a tooth implant today.

It was...interesting. Painless. Noisy. Not horrible, but I would have rather been doing something else.

My dentist said I was his favorite {ahem} patient.

I didn't do research prior to today. I figured ignorance was best in this case.

Doing the research now shows I made the right decision to be ignorant.

Hubz says this is my early 50th birthday present. I'd rather get 50 yards of fabric. {sigh}

Days gone by...

June 15, 2010

Summer always brings about a level of business that prevents me from being here, though that is not a bad thing, I think. I need the sunshine and the warmth. I need to smell the scent of the flowers blooming and see the beauty of their colors.

I wish I could say I have been enjoying those things in the last few days, but the truth is I was in bed for two days with a major migraine. The praise? It's been a whole year since I have had one that bad.

Yesterday was my re-cooperate day. It takes my brain a day to settle down after a migraine. My boys were so kind to find other things to do and basically left me to have the house to myself so I could have quiet and rest. They were never far away if I needed them. I do love my boys who are growing up to be men right before my eyes....

Have a blessed day, everyone!

What is the Gospel?

Migraine anyone?

June 14, 2010

My migraine began Friday night. I slept all weekend...Yup, all weekend. Okay, I got up a couple of times to eat a small bit and then I was back in bed to sleep. I find it amazing that a person can sleep for days, but I am proof that it can be done...It's been over a year since I have had a bad one like this one was.

Today, it's rainy and cool outside. My brain is trying to recover, but thinking is still rather tricky. The coffee tastes good.

Here is where I left off on my latest project. I'll be adding white Kona cotton next. Maybe today...Maybe not. Depends if my brain will cooperate. =)

Will I ever learn?

June 10, 2010

Once upon a time, my Olfa rotary cutting mat was 36" x 24". It's not now. Why? I set a plate of warm pizza on it. No matter how many times I tried to remove the warp, I couldn't get it out, so I cut it in half.

It was a happy little mat and worked perfectly fine for me...

Until...{cue dramatic music} Dun, dun, dun....

...15 minutes ago.  I set a warm plate of pizza on it, got distracted {story of my life these days} and when I came back I realized what I had done. {sigh}

{SIGH

One more time, just for good measure...

{sigh}

I would love some input on what kind of rotary mat to buy next. I really like the Olfa, but have heard good things about the Fiskar rotary cutting mats, too.

What brand of cutting mat do you have and why?

A Simply Sweet Day

June 9, 2010

The sun is shining, the coffee is hot and there is fabric under my needle. It's a {Simply Sweet Day}.
