Box of Goodies

January 11, 2020

Last week, I was gifted with a box full of goodies by a fellow quilter who was destashing. She generously donated the fabric for me to use for the donation quilts I like to make for our local pregnancy support center Bridgehaven

She told me she was sending scraps...

What I received was fat eighths, fat quarters, half yard cuts and yardage!!

For the last few years, I haven't been adding a lot to my stash. What I have realized is by adding these interesting fabric pieces, it has greatly enhanced my stash and given it new life. I am ready to play!!

Thanks, Jocelyn!! 😘

Fabric Blessing

June 7, 2018

Patty contacted me to see if I would like to take her Basic Grey Fresh Cut fabric she wasn't going to use off her hands.

Yes!!

I was blown away when I got the package in the mail yesterday!!

Look at all the fabric!!! There is more than one complete jelly roll and yardage!

All sorted by size...

It's all tucked away in a basket along with the Fresh Cut fabric I already had, just waiting for the perfect project!!

Thank you so very much, Patty, for your kind generosity! I will be thinking of you while I play with this wonderful bundle of fabric fun!!

Quilts I Neglected to Share...

July 17, 2015

In my post yesterday, I realized I didn't share the motorcycle quilt I made for Russ for Christmas. Then I began to look back in my photos and there are several quilts I never blogged about! Warning: Some of the pictures are very bad!! Probably why I didn't share them in the first place, but my blog is really a place for me to recored what I make, so they need to be here, even if the photos are really awful. =D

First bad photo. This is the only picture of this baby quilt I made and, as you can see, the blocks aren't sewn together. I took it to help remember the layout as I was sewing. It is now being loved by a darling little baby girl at my church. Do you recognize the fabric? Its Castle Peeps by Lizzy House from several years ago.

This quilt is for Russ' sister, Cheryl. I used a left over layer cake that was generously given to me by blogging friend Colleen, who blogs at Quilting Under the Sun

I have shared the progress of this quilt in an earlier post here, but not the finished top. I have no idea how to quilt it so it is still sitting and waiting. I may pay for it to be longarmed. Not sure yet.

I made this quilt for a wedding gift earlier this spring. The free pattern is called Moda Love and was made with a layer cake.  One again, a blogging friend gifted me with this layer cake. She no longer is active on line, but she knows who she is. =)

The back, of course. =)

And, now the motorcycle quilt I had made for my Rusty for Christmas, that Russ generously gave it away to one of his friends/co-workers who was dying of cancer and has since passed. =( Russ took it to work and everyone signed it. We miss Vyrl dearly....

I have a feeling I missed a one or two more quilts that never made it to my blog, but that is the way it goes. =)

Have a happy Friday!

Carpenter Star Quilt

July 5, 2015

Long time no see! Seriously! Where did June go?

I only got one project done in June. ONE! That is not like me, which shows how busy I have been at work and around the house. We have been busy refinishing the hardwood floors in two of the bedrooms, repainting and rearranging the house. We have one done and one to go. I'll share more on that when they are finished and the rooms are looking nice.

On to my finished quilt...The oversized carpenter star is a free pattern that is easy and fast. Mine finished 72" x 72". It will be heading to a dear friend in Minnesota very soon!

Thanks for stopping by and have a happy week, everyone!!

Love Happy Mail

January 26, 2015

Who doesn't love happy mail? I know I do and Donna sends the happiest mail around! Not only does Donna@Donna's Lavender Nest have the cutest fabric in her shop, she really knows how to pretty up the packages she sends. I almost hate to open them when they arrive!!

These pretty fabrics are Flower Sugar Fall 2014 and Valentine Rose by Tanya Whelan.

And these darling prints are from the new Pam Kitty Garden line. I am restraining myself from buying the whole line, but it's hard!! See those two little tags? Donna tucked them into my package as a surprise. I know exactly where I am going to use them!

I also received 3 more houses for my Sew Sweet Bee house quilt. The yellow house is from Missy@Missy's Homemaking Adventures, the blue and red house is from Sharon@Daisy Cottage Quilting, the sweet pink and aqua house is from my dear friend, Michelle@Renewing Mrs Sew Sew. Michelle isn't in our bee, but wanted to make me a house anyway. So sweet!! I have the neatest and most thoughtful friends...

Any happy mail come to your house lately?

Have a happy Monday!!

Tis better to give...

September 28, 2014

...and, lets face it, it's a lot of fun to receive. =) Can I get an Amen? In July,  Colleen @ Quilting Under the Sun gifted me with some fabric that was gifted to her because she knew I loved 3 Sisters fabric. That sweet kindness makes this quilt very special to me because I had the privilege of enjoying being given to and in return I get to enjoy giving this beauty to a dear friend. =)

The pattern I used was Bright Sky by Blossom Heart Quilts. I did change up the pattern a wee bit and added an extra star in the center. I also added a boarder so this quilt finished approx at 74"x74".

A few pictures of how I chose to quilt this quilt. I traced around various cardboard petal shapes and used my Juki to quilt it.

The creamy white I used is a cotton/linen blend. Loved working with it!

And here is the back...Love this quilt a lot!!

This quilt is for another dear friend of mine. A couple of years ago I purchased a jelly roll at a steep discount. I was sitting far too long just begging to be used. I followed the tutorial by 3 Dudes that Jenny @ Missouri Star Quilting Company shared.

Here is the back, but you knew that. =)

Close up of some quilting.

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that my walking foot put two dark oil spots on a quilt I began quilting. To say I was upset is putting it mildly. I am going to try Grandma's Secret to get it out, but I need to finish quilting it first. A new walking foot is on order, so in the mean time, I am going to get back to my Farmer's Wife blocks.

Other than working (which is really playing), enjoying this weather and going on long bike rides with my precious hubby, that's about all I have been up to. I hope all is well for all of you, my friends!!

Have a very happy Sunday!!

Sweet Gift

August 11, 2014

I have not forgotten about doing another giveaway. Life got away from me. This week I will get it posted!

While we were on our weekend away, I received a sweet gift in the mail from a bloggy reader, Katy. You can find her @ Katy Quilts. Katy's thoughtfulness is a perfect example why I am compelled to have my little giveaways. =)

Take a look at these sweeties!!

The lighting is terrible, but the lamb is the sweetest light blue. I am going to make a felted wool ball to put in the back to make her into a pincushion. =) She also sent a lovely piece of vintage fabric! I don't know if I can ever cut into it!!

Here is a little better picture of the fabric.

If you heard squealing, it was me. =)

Thank you so much, Katy....I am deeply touched by your thoughtfulness. =)

Winner!!

July 14, 2014

The winner has been chosen by the random number generator and it is.... Tabitha!! Congratulations! =D I'll send you an email soon. =)

Here are a couple of reasons why I am having these giveaways.

A little over a week ago, I received a gift of fabric from Colleen @ Quilting Under The Sun. A friend gave it to her and she knew I loved Three Sisters fabric so she passed them on to me! They will play nicely with my Simplicity collection, too. =)

This is a sampling of what she sent to me. =) Pretty wonderful, huh??

A couple of days ago, Susan @ Pots, Pans, Pins and Prayers sent me this darling lamb embroidered pillowcase.

After I gave it a good press, I hung it up in my window so I can look at it and enjoy it. =)

These kind of kindnesses always blow my mind. I have never met these two dear ladies in real life and for them to be thinking of me brings me to my knees. They have been an instrument of God's love...It brings tears to my eyes to have such generosity shown to me.

I am honored and glad to pass that type of unselfish kindness on. =) Three more giveaways to go!

Have a happy Monday everyone!!

A Quilt for my Naomi

June 25, 2014

This is my Naomi, who is  a precious, precious friend...In fact, Russ and I consider her to be our second daughter.

Here is a silly picture of us trying to take a selfie in our kayaks. The trick was to not have our boats tip from our laughing so hard!

My sweet Naomi is moving in a few weeks to start a new job. *sob* But it's not too far away that we won't still get to see her and visit. *yay* In fact, we told her we had visitation rights and should get to see her at least once a month. ;) We are holding her to that.

A couple of years ago, I scoured the internet to find a Simplicity layer cake by Moda for her birthday (our birthdays are a couple of weeks apart). She loves that line as much as I do! The plan was for her to make herself a quilt. She started one, but with her impeding move, she knew it wouldn't get done for a long time and asked me if I would make it for her. Of course!!

I dug around in my stash for other fabric that played nicely with the Simplicity fabric. I think the end result is so pretty and sweet. Just like my Naomi. =) (The hanging baskets are flowers that Naomi planted for me as a surprise.)

Naomi has promised to use it until it falls into itty bitty pieces. =) That's what I want her to do. I want her to feel the love I have for her every time she cuddles with her quilt. =)

Now that I have made myself cry, its time for me to get to work!!

Have a happy Wednesday, friends!!
