I'm spoiled and I know it

August 29, 2010

Russ and I had to take a trip to Des Moines yesterday, so we made a day of it. Russ spoils me! No worries, I spoil him, too. He got to see lots and lots of motorcycles. {grin} I did have one moment of anxiety in the Harley store. I was envisioning Russ touching a bike and having it fall over and then watching a very expensive domino affect take place. I wonder if that's ever happened before or if it's only in my imagination. All I know is my heart was in my throat the while time I was there. Still makes my heart skip a beat just thinking about it.

Okay...On to the fun stuff....Quilt store finds!

Our first stop was The Quilter's Cupboard. I was excited when they greeted us at the door telling us that today was their customer appreciation day and everything was 15% off. {woot} The first thing I grabbed was the book, Quilters' Travel Companion...I have lots of day trips planned now!

Here are my fabric finds for the day...

I've always loved the Dolly Dresses line by Holly Holderman

Some fun Moda fabric on clearance...

I found a few more fat quarters and yardage of red and turquoise for the Little Red-Riding-Hood project I have in my mind. I think she is so darling!

Can't have too many 1930's fat quarters...At least, I don't think so. =)

I'm always on the lookout for fabric with sheep, but I am very kinda picky about the sheep. I don't like them to be too cartoony. These two prints made it home with me to be added to my other lamb fabric. One of these days I'll start on my lamb quilt.

I am very blessed to have a husband who loves and supports my sewing hobby. {sigh of love}

Another peek at the Peeps

August 27, 2010

My hubby's 94 year old grandmother went to be with the Lord, so the week has been busy with funeral stuff, but today, I got the chance to work on the Peeps some more...

Here is a little teaser...

These are my first attempts at applique. I definitely need to keep practicing.

Tea Towel Makeover

August 21, 2010

I received 4 ginormous tea towels from my husband's favorite aunt. I believe she made them when she was newly married and then never used them. I've had them for a while and have been trying to decide what to do with them. Today, I decided....

A great beginning on a wall hanging!

Joining the Hexagon Craze

August 20, 2010

After scouring the net for hours and hours trying to find Quilt Patis I finally found some in stock at a cute store in Canada called Sew Sisters. It does appear that the creator of the Quilt Patis is going to be getting more in stock soon. I was too impatient to wait. {ahem}

And just in time to help a girl out, Karen at Sew Many Ways posted a very detailed tutorial on how to sew the hexagons and how to sew the sew them together.

Make sure you check out the rest of her blog. She is incredibly talented and her Tool Time Tuesdays are extremely good.

Excellent tutorial, Karen!! My hats off to you...

10 Whole Years

August 19, 2010

10 years ago today I married my best friend...He took me on a day trip that you can read about on my other blog, A Redeemed Sheep. He loves me enough to take me to a quilt shop and let me browse to my hearts desire. And, he bought me some beautiful fabric!

I don't want to open it. It looks so cute all folded up like a present...

If you are ever in Dubuque, make sure you check out The Cotton Cabin. It's a charming, charming store...

...I married my best friend...

Today, he took the day off and planned a day away for us. Our destination, Dubuque.

We visited several thrift stores, including my mom's favorite Goodwill store.

We enjoyed shopping at The Cotton Cabin, where Rusty bought this quilt kit of 1930's reproduction fabric for me. My favorite. ❤

We ate lunch at the famous Breitbach's restaurant. You can read more here. They have a fascinating history and the food is fabulous!

The views are stunning in this area of Iowa....

Russ did some more dreaming. This time it was a Goldwing. He LOVED it! The road was way too busy for my comfort level to ride with him. I have a couple of friends who own one, so I hope to talk one of them into taking me for a ride to see if I can ride one without being anxious. I had a bad experience on a motorcycle at one time which has caused riding with Russ impossible, thus he is looking at motorcycles that are quiet and have a big comfy seat in back in hopes I will be able to ride again.

Our last stop was J.T. Haderway...I had to take a picture of this place setting. You see, my mom wrote the card for it when she worked there. She's been gone for 4 years now. It's nice seeing a piece of her still at J.T. Haderway's.

I couldn't have asked for a better gift than to have my hubby all to myself...

Camera Cozies...

August 18, 2010

The one on the left I made for my daughter. The one on the right is mine, with the lovely thread tangle in the left corner. Ah, well...

Pattern can be found on SewMamaSew.

Share your opinion....

August 14, 2010

I am so pleased with how this quilt is going.

My thoughts are to add a narrow boarder in the Kona Snow and then squares or rectangles of the 1930's fabric as the final boarder.

Then again, maybe I ought to just leave it as it is now...

What would you do?

1930's Pinwheel Quilt

I am going to work on my 1930's pinwheel quilt top today...

I need to see the happy colors...

I hope I made them accurately enough for them to go together right....

Always nervous about that...

I'm using a lot of ...'s today...

=)

What are you all working on today? Do you use ...'s when you write?

A tiny peek of the Peeps

August 13, 2010

I told you it was a tiny peek....

More pictures to come. I promise!

And because I love this line so much, I bought a fat quarter set in the red colorway. I'm on a search for the blues...

Have a great Friday!

The big one is going to Africa where Casey's mother-in-love is a missionary.

Packaged up and ready to hand out to our friends.
