I have got a great idea!!! Lets pretend the last few weeks haven't happened. Deal? =) In all seriousness, the prayers and notes of encouragement meant a lot to me. Lets face it, life can be hard....very hard, but when you have support from friends and family, it makes it easier to bear and I thank you for the support...

Okay, lets look at pretty fabric, shall we? 

A couple of months ago, I started what I was calling our winter quilt using Moda's Winter's Lane. It's still in the flimsy stage. I haven't fully decided if it is finished or not. I love the 3-d pinwheels. =) 

But then, I got distracted and dug out some more pretty Christmas/winter fabric called Happy Holiday by Happy Zombie that has been waiting a long, long time to be made into something pretty. It goes so well with the Merry Little Christmas line, don't you think?

My first epp hexagon wall hanging is finished! The hexie flowers are sewn together and then I appliquéd it to the background fabric like I appliqué my dresden plates.  I couldn't decide what to do in the middle, so I played with a larger hexie flower... 

...and fussy cut the lamb for the center. =) This wall hanging will be going up in my sewing room. It measures 29"x31".

This was my "test" piece, to see if I would like making hexagons and the hand sewing it involves. 

The verdict??

I am getting ready to start a larger project. I have my sewing kit all set up and I am auditioning fabric. The  free pattern I am going to follow can be found at Paper Pieces.

I am not ambitious enough to make a queen size quilt that the pattern is written for, so my math man helped me figure out how many diamonds I would need to for a 60"x70"-ish size quilt. Once I get there, I can decide if I want to make it bigger or be done. 

Now back to auditioning fabric. =) I can't wait to get started!

First up, an American Jane panel that I quilted on the long arm with my new love, Aurifil thread. My machine loved this thread. =) 

I love how it looks. =)

Here is a small piece of trivia about me....I was named after the Jane character in the Dick and Jane readers. My daddy picked out my first name, and my 6 year old sister, who was learning how to read at school with the Dick and Jane readers, chose Jane for my middle name. =)

I have had this granny square flimsy sitting around for months. I used simple meandering on the granny square blocks and left the white blocks alone. If I could quilt a flower that didn't look like it was dying, I would do one in each of the white squares, but I can't, so that's that. 

I really love how this one turned out!

Did you all have a good Christmas? I hope so...

We have a very untraditional Christmas at our home. Being a blended family, we have always let the children's other parent have them on Christmas Eve and /or Christmas Day. Now that they are older, we give the children complete control on how they want to spend the day and with whoever they want. My two older children spent the day with family and friends, my two younger kids were home for most of the day. We opened no presents nor did we cook a big meal. We had yummy chili in the crockpot instead. We enjoyed the day and hung out with each other. It was actually the best Christmas Day I can remember for a long, long time. We will get all the kids together and do gifts one of these days. Can you tell I take a very relaxed approach to the whole holiday season? =) 

Much of Christmas Day, I spent on the long arm quilting these two quilts. This quilt is for my sister-in-love, Marci. Most of the fabric are scraps left over from the Triangle quilt. 

I like the randomness of it. It's fairly large at 78"x78". 

That was made from a layer cake of Cherry Christmas. It's a nice sized baby quilt. I have no plans for it yet. 

The back fabric all came from my stash. It's so liberating to see the piles of fabric go down in my stash. That's one of my big goals this year, to do some stash busting, either by sewing quilts up for charity or selling, trading,  giving away fabric. I do not want to be a fabric hoarder. That said, I am not going so far as to not allow myself to buy fabric this next year, but I am going to be much more selective and thoughtful before I purchase more than a fat quarter.

Did you all have a good Christmas? I hope so...

We have a very untraditional Christmas at our home. Being a blended family, we have always let the children's other parent have them on Christmas Eve and /or Christmas Day. This is one of my all time favorites. So out of the norm, color wise, than what I am usually drawn to. 

The backing was a Goodwill score from last year. Six yards for little to nothing.

The points are far from perfect in some places, but it really doesn't matter. =) So all my newbie quilters, don't worry about perfect points. Do the best you can and keep on going. You learn with every quilt. My next one will be better. 

See? When looking at the big picture, you don't see the less than perfect points. =) 

I have  a plan for this quilt, but I have to keep it a secret for now. Shhhhhhh....

I have much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving and to honor all that God has blessed me with, I am passing on the blessings to those who have much less than I do. 

Five baby quilts (two are waiting in the wings to be quilted on the long arm) are going to find their way to Bridgehaven, a local pregnancy support center. 

A friend who asked to remain anonymous, donated some of the fabric used for the quilts, so it's a blessing from both of us...

It feels so right to pass the kindness on....

This quilt is huge! Right now it measure 108" x 88". In order to get a picture, I had to lay it down on the living room floor, stand on a chair and hold the camera up. This is the best one out of all I took so you can imagine how bad the rest are. =) 

I really love it. =) 

Using 4 or 9 blocks would make a darling baby quilt for a little girl. =)

I got a few blocks made yesterday. I worked on the hardest ones, first. I wanted to get them out of the way. My suggestion...Do not use directional fabric for the flower center. The blue block may have been subjected to a seam ripper a time or ten. 

I think it would look funny if the little petals weren't going in the same direction as the center, so it was worth the effort. 

But now, I need to set this project aside and get busy with my coin purse for the UR Priceless blog hop! My day to share is November 5th, the first day of the hop, so the procrastination must end now.

I am pleased to share with all of  you my version of Sandy Klop's pattern Merry-Go-Round. I first saw this quilt at a dear friend's home hanging on her wall and it was love at first sight. She blessed me with the pattern and the ruler to make one for myself.

For my version, I used a mix of Vintage Modern and Bliss by Bonnie and Camille. The quilt finishes at 60 ½" x 61 ½". Though you have to be careful because you are working with bias edges, the quilt goes together surprisingly easily.

I echo quilted inside each hexagon 5 times. 

Yes, it seemed to take forever, but I knew it wold be worth it in the end. 

And it was worth it...

I like to make the back of my quilts pretty, too...
