Visiting mom's house part 2

January 31, 2009

A glimpse of the things I brought home. :o) I am having so much fun sorting through it all. I'm taking pictures as I do so to share on another day.

I also took lots of pictures of my mom's house. Watch for those in the near future.

It was a wonderful day....Very healing....

For the first time since my mom died, I am going to go to her house today. I'm going to go get the accessories that go with my sewing machine and get some of her fabric, maybe...I am excited! Jump up and down excited....However, I am also sad. It will be very difficult to go in her home and not have her be there.

I'll update later and maybe I'll have a few pictures to share. :o)

RS small TIMHT

I love my Pyrex bowls...Their cheery colors are...Cheery. :o)

The two little bowls and the larger yellow bowl belonged to my mom. I have no idea how I ended up with them, but I'm keeping them! Holden uses the larger one as his cereal bowl. Whenever I see him eating out of it, I think of Jethro Bodine. In the summer, I use it as my salad bowl.

I love this piece...I use it as my butter dish. It belonged to Russ' mom. I don't know how we ended up with that one, either. I hate to say it, but I think we both stole from our mothers! LOL!

The two pinkish bowls came from a friend who was cleaning out her kitchen. I need more friends like her, huh? :o)

All stacked and ready to be put away.

BIG Twuble...

January 27, 2009

I'm in BIG twuble...My hubby is going to be unhappy with me. A couple of days ago, part of a back molar chipped off. For the last several years the dentist has prepared me for the sure event that it would break and it will need to be crowned.

I like my dentist. He's a great guy!! I just don't like going to the dentist. Anxiety, don'tcha know...I was doing a good job for several years going to the dentist every 6 months, but I back slid. It's been at least 2 years since I have gone to see him and now I have a broken tooth. Yuck...

The reason why I am in BIG twuble...Russ told me to call my dentist on Sunday. I told him I would do it Monday. I didn't. This morning he told me to call my dentist today and he proceeded to lecture me. I told him I would...But....I didn't. Partly because I am stubborn and don't like to be told to do something. And partly because I really, really don't want to go to the dentist.

*sigh* He will not be pleased....Good thing I know he loves me, right? :o)

Fabric addiction

January 26, 2009

My fabric stash is growing. The best part, except for a couple pieces, everything you see I purchased at Goodwill or the Salvation Army. It's like a treasure hunt every time I go.

I've also been learning more and more about my new-to-me Viking sewing machine. I've learned that I need the other 3 stitch cassettes in order to really sew. At this time, I can only sew with the stitch that is preprogrammed in, which is basically a straight stitch. But, it's better than nothing, right? :o) My step dad is still struggling greatly with losing my mom...He knows there are things that go with the machine that I need, so I am trying to be understanding and patient. I confess, it's not easy...

Childhood Memories Friday & Memories of Mom Part 2

January 23, 2009

Revealing my baby blanket that is tucked away in the quilt my mom and I made.

The first snip...

Cutting the ties...

My first peek inside...

Another peek...Look, it's a lamb!

The blanket set free.

As you can see in the photos, the binding is in horrible condition. I'll have to figure out how to replace it and make it look nice again.

I like the blanket much better. :o)

Childhood Memories Friday & Memories of Mom

When I was a child...I'm guessing about 12...my mom helped me to make this quilt.

This is the front.

This is the back.

But here is my dilemma. Inside this quilt, is my baby blanket. I think it has a picture of a sheep on it. I am considering opening up a seam and cutting the ties to get my baby blanket out and re-quilting the cover.

Please tell me...Should I do it???

Things In My House Thursday

RS small TIMHT

This is my very favorite book from my childhood. The copy right is 1946, 14 years prior to my birth, so I don't know where it came from for sure. Maybe it belonged to my sister. All I know is that it has always been my favorite book. I love the font they used on the cover, however, what I love the most is the precious artwork used through out the book. Look at the precious rosy cheeks and chubby legs.

This is the inside cover. Do they even have teeter-totters on playgrounds anymore??

If I could, I would take pictures of every page. They are all darling. I think they would look so cute framed in a child's room.

I keep the book on the top of my ribbon bulletin board. I enjoy looking at it. Next time Brooklyn comes over, I'll have to get it down and read it to her. :o)

I Think My Wife's a Calvinist

January 21, 2009

This is hilarious!!! A big thank you to my pastor for sending me the link.

What is that??

This made me weep...

I've got mail!!

January 20, 2009

I had a great time getting the mail today! First, I got my first piece of artwork from Brooklyn! Awww...She is very talented, don't you think? And look at that penmanship! Not too shabby for an 18 month old. *wink*

Next, I received a very special package from a state far, far away from my friend Kel!

Is this not the cutest sheep? But wait, it's not only cute, it's functional!

Inside the special tummy pouch is a pad filled with wheat and lavender. I can microwave it to warm it up, put it back in the tummy and have something warm and cozy to snuggle with. It will come in very handy during the cold winter months ahead.

Childhood Memories Friday ~ New Meme

January 16, 2009

Susan of Girls in White Dresses, has started a new meme about childhood memories. I can't promise to be faithful to post every week, as you can all tell by my lack of My Husband Rocks Friday posts lately. Trust me, he ROCKS all the time. I love that man...I enjoy reading other people's memories of their childhoods. It sparks memories of my childhood memories in those sweeter and simpler days gone by.

For example, last week, Jen of MommySweetMom posted about tar bubbles and Indian beads. I hadn't thought about tar bubbles in years!! Just reading about her memory caused me to recall the hours I spent popping tar bubbles when I was a child. I remembered how we could all be gone from home all day, without *gasp* a cell phone to check in. I would leave in the morning and not come home until lunch and go out again until supper time. I wandered the streets of town along with every one else. I wish my children could have that freedom. Perhaps in smaller towns kids can still do that.

I also remember my mom writing a note giving me permission to use her credit card so I could buy new jeans. Can you imagine doing that today?? Or buying something and telling them to put it on my parents tab. Amazing...

What are some of YOUR childhood memories?? :o)
