I Dare to Dresden

Oh, yes, I do Dare to Dresden

These are a few of the Dresden projects I have made over the years.

Can you tell I love making them? =) When Mdm Samm @ Sew We Quilt announced the Dare To Dresden hop, enthusiastically cheered on by Christine @ Quilt Monster in my Closet, I was all in!

Seriously, hasn't this been a fun blog hop?! I have loved all the creative ideas the ladies have come up with to spark my imagination. I can't wait to try one or ten. =)

Of course, you must stop in and see what the rest of the hoppers have to share for today. =)

A Quilting Sheep - You are here!

Here is my contribution for the hop....I hope you like it. =)

Last summer, there was a Dresden Quilting Challenge going on. When I saw Melissa @ Happy Quilting's contribution she called Double Dresden Delight, I knew I had to give it a try. As soon as I made them, I knew they wanted to be flowers.

I lost sleep over this quilt.

I am thrilled with how it turned out. =)

Love the prairie points grass. I was tempted to iron them back flat, but decided grass grows in its own organic way and it was okay to not have perfect grass.

I only have one more thing left to do...That is to give the little lady a name. I would love to hear your ideas! What would you name this quilt?

Thanks for stopping by! Enjoy the rest of the hop. =D

Reorganizing

January 28, 2013

I have been spending the last week reorganizing my home. I am making progress and the hard work has been worth it.

First up, the blue room (my former sewing room) is now were my long arm lives. I have much to do in here, but my first priority was to get my bedroom back.

With the long arm out of here, I could rearrange my room and get rid of the dust raccoons that were living in here. Now my room feels like a restful place to be.

Next up will be the living room. It needs a fresh coat of paint and some rearranging. We spent all day Saturday going through papers, cleaning out drawers and the hutches. Boy, can things pile up! Yikes! I looked at the things I own and made decisions on what can stay because I love it and what could move on for someone else to love. Most went to my daughter, Haley, to pretty up her house.

Sunday brought us freezing rain and a migraine. Sometimes weather can trigger one for me. It was a stay in bed, sleep all day migraine. =( It's been a while since that has happened.

That's what has been happening here. Tomorrow is my day to share my Dare to Dresden project. I hope you stop back to see me then. =)

Floor update

Sanding more...

First coat of varnish going on...

One coat on, two to go.

Weekend plans

January 18, 2013

*waving* Hello to some new followers! Oh, yes. I notice. =) I am flattered and pleased that you are here.

This is my old sewing room floor. Isn't it a mess??...After I moved most of my stuff down to the main floor, we could get a really good look at how awful it really is. I knew it was bad and threatened to paint it a time or two...Honestly? I didn't really grasp how bad it was until the room was empty. My hubby being the wise man he is, decided it seemed prudent to take advantage of a cleaned out room and go ahead and refinish the floor. I'll take pictures of the process as he works on it.

Before
While my hubby works on the floor, I will be working on a new project.  A couple of summers ago, I bought the book Material Obsession because I fell in love with the quilt on the cover.

I adore that quilt! It has everything I love. Polka dots, dresden plates and bright colors...My goal this year was to make my own version and here is my start. =)

*This is not my project for my Dare to Dresden blog hop. To see that one, you need to come back on the 29th.*

What do you have planned for this weekend?

New Sewing Room

January 15, 2013

I am so glad you are here and I hope you enjoy my little tour of my new sewing room. To see the before pictures, you can visit here

The most important spot in my room is this chair. It's a place for my friends and family to comfortably sit when they come for a visit. The arms of the chair are looking very worn. I need to make something to cover them up and make them look pretty.

My scraps, sorted by color, are in the bins with the blue lids. The other bins hold my fat quarters and half yards. I keep my yardage folded and stacked using this method by Happy Zombie.

On the other side of the wire shelf, I have a small peg board (that needs painted, but I was in a hurry to get things set up) that holds my most used tools and smaller rulers. I simply zip tied it to the shelf. I love zip ties! 'S' hooks are for my purchased patterns.

The tool chest holds my needles, bobbins and other various small sewing supplies. I purchased it at Harbor Freight.

One of my very favorite things is my cutting table. It was once a very ugly desk that I found at the Salvation Army for $1. You can see pictures of its transformation here and here

Under the desk has great storage. I keep my Viking sewing machine there so it's handy for those times when I need her. My former sewing room had a closet to store things, so finding a new place to put those things was a challenge. These plastic bins are an example. They hold my "special fabric" and used to live on a shelf in the closet. They found their new home under the desk so I can still access them easily.

New shelves! I lost a tall wire shelf in the move and I needed a place for my books, my buttons and some pretties. As I adjust to my new place, somethings may get shifted around, but for now, this works.

I love the step stool I found at Goodwill. It gets used a lot so I can reach things on the tall shelves.

The tall cupboard we originally purchased to add more cupboard space in the kitchen is a great fit in my room and holds my precuts perfectly.

The ironing board is my extra table I use when quilting a larger quilt. I set it up on the left side of my table to hold the extra weight of the quilt while I am working on it.

Ohhh...This is another one of my very favorite things. My pink kitchen cabinet pressing station. I begged the owner to sell it to me. It's true...You can read about it here, here and here

I found the area rug at Menard's for $17. I found fatigue mats on clearance that I placed under the rug. They make a world of difference when standing for long periods of time.

More shelving. I think I have enough room to store stuff now. ;-)

My first baby doll. My mom always said I loved the hair right off of her. She has a very silly name. Ready? Santa Claus Doll. Why? Because Santa gave her to me. It made sense to a me when I was 3 years old. =)

Moving on, the sewing table and my beloved Juki. Love this machine!

My office area. My one goal for this room was for me to have my sewing table so I could see outside and have my computer placed where I could watch Netflix while I worked. I am so glad we were able to get it worked out to be able to do that.

In Your Words - Blog Hop

January 14, 2013

This has been such a fun blog hop to follow. I have enjoyed the creative ideas that my fellow blog hoppers have come up with so far. =)

I want to begin with a huge thank you to Madame Samm for hosting these fun blog hops and a great big salute to Linda @ Buzzing and Bumbling for being our cheerleader and organizer. Great job, ladies...

I had a little trouble with my project. I used these fabric sheets and followed the directions to make the ink color-fast.

It didn't work for me. After I washed my project (I hand washed it carefully) the ink smudged on all my words! Argh!!

So I took the words out. Oh, yes I did...And it took a long time!

I made the new words by ironing fabric on freezer paper and running it through the printer. The words faded some when I hand washed it, but at least it isn't smeared.

The words I chose are from Galatians 5:22, which are the fruits of the Holy Spirit. I am very much a work in progress on all of them. Some more than others, like self control and patience. *ahem* Having them where I can see them all day has helped me to meditate on them and think about how I can be more kind to those around me, or use a more gentle tone when talking to my family when I am frustrated.

I would love to know if anyone has used these fabric sheets for a project and if they had any tips on how I can use the ones I have left successfully. I hesitate to use them at all, at this point.

Make sure you go see what these lovely ladies made for today's blog hop and be inspired!

A Quilting Sheep (you are here!)

Coming up tomorrow...My new sewing room reveal. =)

Going down...making progress

January 10, 2013

The den before....

Sorry, dear, the deer have to go!

The beginning of my new sewing space.

I lost a closet in the move, so figuring out where to store my fabric is the big decision yet to be made. We are thinking about putting shelves above the pressing station and the cutting station.

I think it will work, though I had serious doubts yesterday.

Be back later!

Going down

January 9, 2013

Life is never boring around my home. I assume that is true for all of us. =)

Kids moving *back* in, to kids moving *back* out...It can cause things to be a bit crazy and that is fine with me. I love my children, after all. =)

All the moving in and out has caused Russ and I to revaluate how our home is set up. Russ knows how important it is for me to have a place to call my own and he sees the value in it., which means sacrificing my sewing room so that we have a guest room for those "moving back in times" was not an option, but moving my sewing room to the den was. Though the work is hard, it will be so worth it. I will be on the main level of the house, so I will be more connected to the family. Being isolated upstairs has been one of the drawbacks to my sewing room. The sewing room will now be a guest/long arm room. =) If a child needs to move back home for an extended period of time, we will move the long arm back to my bedroom, but for now, it will be wonderful having it out of my bedroom!

Today I will be putting a second coat of Powdered Snow (Behr paint) paint on the den/new sewing room walls and begin the packing and moving down stairs. =)

Pics will be coming as soon as I get rid of the light bulbs that turn everything yellow. Yuck...I do love my daylight bulbs!

In Your Words blog hop

January 3, 2013

Coming up on the 7th of January, In Your Words, the first blog hop of 2013 @ Sew We Quilt will begin. I am anxious to see what everyone comes up with for this project. One thing for sure, I know I will be inspired. These blog hops have been great for stretching my creativity and to get me to try new things.

If you haven't joined in on any of the blog hops at Sew We Quilt before, go ahead, take the plunge and join in on one of the future hops that are being organized. They really are fun. =)

My day to share my creation is on the 14th. I only just began mine today. It took weeks of thinking to decide on what words I wanted to use in my project. Now that that decision has been made, I am excited to get started. =)
