Quilted Pillow: A Pinterest Project

After doing a large project, I like to do some small, quick projects. I've been admiring all the great pillows out in blogland and on Pinterest. 

I found a cute pillow on Pinterest which lead me to Sew We Quilt for the tutorial. I should have known because Sew We Quilt is full of great tutorials. 

I hope to get it done today, but right now, I need to give one of my dogs a bath. Lets just say, it's not good....

This quilt is huge! Too big for my long arm, so I am going to set her aside until I decide what to do with her. 

This was a fun quilt to make.

It's time to get this baby done. I bought the kit from Miss John'aLee @ The Scrappy Appleyard, herself, when we met at the quilt show in Des Moines over a year ago. 

The cutting was so scary, at first...But I quickly got down to it...

The fan blades all cut out and ready to sew. Don't laugh, but I really lay my stuff out like this while I am working. I am fastidious about how I keep my sewing room and my projects as I work on them. I like everything all neat and tidy. Except for the floor. That gets all trashed with threads and fabric scraps. 

I've got lots of pressing to do!

Brenda had a tag sale and my hubby bought it for me for Valentime's Day. 

Ok, the truth is...when I ordered the fabric it just happened to be around Valentine's Day, so I am calling it my Valentine's Day gift. 

I don't know what quilt pattern I want to use yet.   

For now, I like looking at it. =)

My little Mister needed a play mat for his Mimi's house. 

And Mimi (that would be me) needed a project to do last night. I found this quilt top tucked away in my sewing room. I completely forgot about it! I decided to experiment by doubling the batting, just to see what it would be like to quilt and how it would feel. 

The extra batting sure makes the quilting pop. It was more difficult to quilt in that it was stiffer than using one piece of batting so a larger quilt would be tricky to manouver. I do like the extra softness it gives, however. 

  It's a nice softness for a baby to lay on. 

 Washed, folded and waiting for the next time my little Mister comes to his Mimi's house. =)

I used Tipsy yesterday.

On this quilt for Reagan's piano teacher.

It went very well...It's not perfect, but that's okay. 

The point is

Some of you have already noticed that there are a lot of new posts all of a sudden. I decided to merge my original blog, A Redeemed Sheep, with this one.   A Quilting Sheep will still mainly be focused on my quilting and sewing, but occasionally, a few posts on my family will pop up here and there, as well. I am trying to simplify my life a bit and this was one easy way to do that. 

My kitchen has made progress. Wanna see??

This wall shelf was made by some friends of ours. They decided to update their house, so they sold it to us for a song. With the bead board backing, it works perfectly in the kitchen. We slapped a fresh coat of paint on it and it was all set to go. I'm thinking it would be fun to have different plates to display as the seasons change. The towels probably won't stay there. I just stuck them there because I didn't know what I wanted to do with them yet. 

When Russ and I went away on our weekend a few weeks ago, we found these two shelves at a consignment shop. They work perfectly. 

I need to refinish or paint the quilt holders, until I get that done, they are being held onto the wall with Command strips. I love them and I use them all the time for things around the house. For example, I use them to hold outlet strips on the side of my cutting desk in my sewing room, that way I can get to the outlets easily when they are needed. 

I'm not sure what I will do with this wall space. Something will come up, I'm sure. I am toying with the idea of screwing in some mug hooks under the shelf to hang some utensils or cups with handles. Or I have considered using a curtain rod of some sort to put between the feet of the shelf, cover it with fabric and hang light things (vintage pot holders, or decorations) from it.

I do love big jars...

The hand beater belongs to my friend's grandmother. She was tired of it taking up space in her drawers and asked if I wanted it. Of course I did! I told her I would store it for her and when she wants it back, she just needs to ask. In the meantime, I am taking care of it. =) 

I'm so classy. Look at that crooked towel. =D 

    

Maybe someday this little lady will get a makeover.

This quilt was a bear to get quilted. It was too big for my long arm, so I wrestled, tugged and pulled it through Miss Juki. It was exhausting...

but oh so worth it...

I kept the quilting light. I wanted it to be soft...

I did manage wash and dry it in my machines, but next time, I am going to take it where I can use a front loader washer and dryer. They would do a much better job. 

I decided to stop hoarding the chenille I had in my stash and use it as the boarder. 

Fussy cut flower for the center of the Dresden. 

Now I am ready for a new project, but on a much smaller scale. =)
