This quilt was a fun quilt to make. =) It has an extra bonus of being a great scrap buster. For the string triangles, I cut triangles of a foundation fabric (I used old white sheets) using my tri-recs ruler and covered them with strings to make blocks. When I exhausted the colors I had in my string box that would work for this project, I cut up other fabrics on my stash and made whole triangles. I like the mix of pieced triangles and whole cloth triangles. 

A few years ago, I made an impulse buy of this watermelon fabric. I wasn't sure if I would ever find a way to get it out of my stash pile, but I did! It's perfect for the back of this quilt! 

For the quilting, I outlined all the triangles. I then took 3 different sized diner plates and traced around them, over lapping them all over the quilt. Like bubbles, if you will. Only they are big bubbles. =) Super easy and it was fast!

Tomorrow, Brooklyn will be visiting for a few hours. She will have her hands full of 4 quilts to give away to her friends and her new baby cousin. =)

Pattern found on Quilt.Cook.Keep. I made mine smaller using 3.5" blocks instead of 5.5". It finished at 29 ½" (approx).

When I couldn't sleep the other night, I splurged and bought two of Camille Roskelly's mini patterns. Would you be surprised if I told you I bought the Spools and Swoon patterns? I have a feeling the answer to that would be "no." =)

I am toying with the idea of using the pastel solids to make the mini Swoons, enough for a lap size blanket or wall hanging. Or making the smaller swoons to use as a border and doing something else in the middle...I don't know! Until I do know, I will continue to think and think and think....

When I found this lovely spring set of solids fat quarters on Fat Quarter Shop by Michael Miller, I splurged and bought it! At the time they had a deal of free shipping and I had a 20% off coupon. Love a good deal! I am going to just look at them a while until I decide what pattern I want to use. 

And for Valentine's Day, my hubby ordered this beautiful Cross pen/stylus. It writes in black ink, red ink and has a pencil, along with a stylus tip at the end.  He even splurged and had it engraved with my name and the date. =)  We normally don't do gifts for Valentine's Day, but this year, being a hard one,  he wanted to bless me with a gift. =) I love that man....

Spring is coming!! And it can't happen soon enough. =)

Our only refuge in sorrow

We see the Master at prayer in Gethsemane. It was here that He prepared for His Cross. We should notice that His refuge in His exceeding sorrow, was prayer; and that as the sorrow deepened, the refuge still was prayer. "Being in an agony--He prayed more earnestly."

Just so, prayer is our only refuge in sorrow.

The lesson from the garden prayer, is that we should take . . .
    all the hard things,
    all the anguishes, 
    all the insufferable pains, 
    all the bitter griefs of our lives
    --to God in prayer. 

We may be sure, too, that God will answer. If He does not relieve us of the suffering--He will strengthen us so that we can keep it, and still go on trusting and singing!

I am part of a sewing bee being hosted by Donna @ Donna's Lavender Nest. Oh, and by the way, she has a great sale at her shop. I may have purchased a bunch of Scrumptious that she had...Ahem....

Donna's month was January and she requested a Jacob's Ladder block with lavender and Kona snow. Lavender is in short supply in my stash, but I had one fat quarter I won from her in a giveaway last year, so I had the perfect fabric waiting for her. =) Now to get it in the mail! 

February's block is for Clara @ Clover and Violet. Clara and her daughter, Jennie are a mother and daughter team who design bags. They have some really cute patterns! Make sure you check them out!

Clara requested a log cabin block with low volume fabric along with red and aqua. Now I have a lot of those fabrics on my stash, so this one was hard in that I had a lot to choose from! 

Next month it's my turn and I have no idea what blocks I want to have the gals in the bee to make for me or what colors!! This is a short month so I need to get busy and make up my mind. =)

My granddaughter, Brooklyn, has a new baby girl cousin, a dear friend (age 6) who is very ill and the ill friend has a baby sister, so I made three quilts for her to give to her cousin and friends....

This one is for the new baby cousin. I used Missouri Star Quilt Company's tutorial Disappearing Pinwheels. The quilt measures 46"x46".

This one is for her sick friend. She has been in the hospital for almost two weeks. She was life flighted twice to two different hospitals. They came very close to losing her. Praise God she is on the mend!! The quilt measures 65"x65". 

This is the back of the quilt....

When I found out Brooklyn's ill friend had a baby sister, I had to make one for her, too. I used much of the same fabric so they would be alike and yet not identical. Two of the blocks were orphan blocks that I was able to make work. =) The one measures 43'x43".

The back is a soft flannel...

I will admit, it was fun to be able to use my new labels. =)
