Painting is done!

October 29, 2013

The painting is done!

Before...

After...

This is the best wall we have to hang quilts on. Making the decision on how to hang them up has been the hardest part of this process. I think I have settled on the curtain rods with the clips like I am using for the window curtains. ~ Speaking of which, I am not sold on the curtains that I am using at this time, but they are better than nothing. ~ I am going to run out and look for a rod today. =)

What I am super excited about are my new pillows!

This one is my favorite! I used the house and tree pattern from Lori Holt's new book Quilty Fun. Isn't it a happy pillow? =)

I decided to not make the throw pillows matchy matchy. I plan on making several covers for each of them so I can change them out as the whim strikes or even with the seasons.

I have a few more pillows to make new covers for. =) But first, I want to get a quilt on the wall!

Have a happy Tuesday, everyone!!

Tissue Basket

October 28, 2013

How many of you, like me, have had tissue boxes in your car that were smashed beyond any usefulness long before the tissues were used up? I don't have that problem any more! Thanks to Miss Mildred, I have a new tissue basket for my car!

It holds a square size tissue box perfectly. Just snug enough that when you pull out a tissue, the tissue box stays put inside the basket. Cool idea, huh? =) The quality of my new basket far exceeded my expectations. It is sturdy and so very finely made. Simply put...it is perfect.

To get one for yourself or to give one as a gift, go to

click on photo to go to Granny's Etsy shop
You won't find my exact basket in her shop because mine is a custom request. I am sure Miss Mildred would be very happy to make you one, too.

~I was not asked to do this review. I only do so because of how very, very pleased I am with my new basket and I think you would be, too.  =) ~

Have a happy week!

Sampler Quilt ~ Block 2

October 24, 2013

Block 2 gave me a bit of trouble. This is the first attempt and I measure way too big. Over a 1/2" too big! I messed and messed with it and couldn't get it right, so I too off the last round and started over from the white square.

This one measured too big, too, but not as much, so I trimmed it to size. Still, when I sew this one to another block, I will loose the point on the white fabric. I am okay with that. =)

Instructions for this block can be found at Donna's Lavender Nest

Quilty Fun!

Love. This. Book!

And it looks like a new Quilty Fun Quilt Along is in the works.

Be still my heart. =)

Wet Paint

October 20, 2013

Our living room, stair way and upstairs hallway are in the process of getting a long over due fresh coat of paint. It's been at least 5 years since we painted and at that time I was on a kick of painting the ceilings a color instead of ceiling white. I won't do that again! We have a little more painting to do and a ways to go to get everything hung back up on the walls, even so, I like it so much better! We chose to paint the walls a warm white. Lambs wool white, to be specific. I can't wait to get started with making new pillow covers to dress things up with pops of color.

What was I thinking???

Upstairs hallway...

Stair way sporting two new coats of paint.

Living room before...

Living room ceiling is painted. Getting ready to work on the walls. Floor needs refinished, but that is a long ways away from getting done.

All finished except the cut in work by the ceiling.

All that is left is to paint in the ceiling and these two walls on this side of the room.

Maybe...Maybe we can leave a wall open enough for me to hang a quilt up somewhere in the room. That will take some doing because I don't have a lot of wall space to play with, but we are going to try.

I'll update when we get it finished and the room settled. =)

Sampler Quilt - Block 1

October 17, 2013

Yesterday Donna posted the first block in the sampler quilt she is hosting.

Quilt-a-longs are so good for me because I am forced to make new blocks that I otherwise wouldn't try. I am a lazy quilter. I like easy. For my sampler quilt, I am going to use my precious Bonnie and Camille fabrics.

Jacob's Ladder ~ Finish

Oh, wow!! How I love how this quilt turned out!!

I found the perfect vintage sheet for the back.

A happy feast for the eyes....

Sweet Win!

October 11, 2013

Donna @ Donna's Lavender Nest had a give away to celebrate her milestone of 300 followers on her blog last week. Much to my surprise and delight, I won!!

She sure knows how to wrap a pretty package. Me, not so much...

Look at these lovies! They are fat quarters from Lecien's lines Floral Bouquet and Floral Collection. My photos are not doing the colors justice. Trust me!

Thanks, Donna!! You are a peach!

Swooning ~ con't

October 10, 2013

I stayed up far too late getting these last four done. I am sure I am not the first one to do something like that. Sleep is over rated anyway, right? ;)

Now to decide how I want to do the sashing. =)

Swooning

October 9, 2013

If I had to pick a favorite block, the Swoon block by Camille @ Thimble Blossoms would have to be it. Now, it's not my favorite block to make. There are a lot of pieces and you really have to pay attention to how they go together, but in the end, it is all worth it. I have made two other Swoon quilts (blogged here and here). I have wanted one for me for a long, long time. I got hung up on what I wanted to use for the fabrics and if I wanted to use a white background or not. I decided to stop over thinking the whole thing, jump off of the fence, and just do it. Last week, I did just that.

It is hard to tell with the inside shots, what I chose to use for the background fabric is pearl pink by Kona. The fabric surrounding the center star is a tone on tone white. *fingers crossed* I hope it looks okay with I get all the blocks finished.

If you have made a Swoon quilt, I would love to see pictures of it. =)

Have a happy day!!

Red and White

October 7, 2013

I made this top last spring and finished making it into a quilt in the last few weeks. Simple patchwork using scraps of reds, pinks and whites from the leftovers from other projects over the years.

I have had this yardage in my stash for years. It works great for the backing of this quilt. =)

I quilted flowers in the larger squares.

The rest of the quilt was simply cross hatched.

All ready to be gifted to someone. =)

Measurements: 65" x 65"
