I finished this one up yesterday. The thread I used for the words look too chunky. I don't hate it, so I am going to leave well enough alone and not redo the whole thing. I reserve the right to change my mind on that, though...

Without further adieu, here is my contribution for the Bowls With Borders Blog Hop....

When the blog hop was first announced, I knew exactly what I wanted to make. This vintage kitchen cabinet had just found its way into our home and it needed a little dressing up. 

Apparently my wall needed some dressing up, too. See the little dirt smudge? Ooops. =D

*Ahem* Moving on...

Have you seen Pink Penguin's lunch bag tutorial? It's one of my favorites! After I made my lamb bag, I knew I had to make another one just a little bit larger for take along sewing projects. 

What do you think??

I added a zippered pocket in the lining to keep my needles, thimble and other small stuff. 

I ended up adding 3" to the height and width. It's a perfect size at 15" wide at the top, 10" wide at the bottom, 11" tall, and 5 1/2" deep. 

 This has nothing to do with the bag, but I wanted to show you these pretty zippers I bought yesterday on our motorcycle ride. Aren't the colors great!? I don't have any projects in mind. I just had to have them for "just in case."

I finished Haley's pillows this weekend. They are so fun and modern! 

And I have the binding on the second scrappy baby quilt. Now I need to get to working on the hand quilting part of the two quilts....

A note on the word verification that blogger is using now:

Ugh...Sometimes I take time to answer emails and comment on blogs from my phone when I am riding in the car. The word verification doesn't work on my phone, which is so frustrating to me. I thought I would share that piece of information in case people didn't know. Also, there are times when typing in the crazy words gets so difficult to read on my computer, that I give up and don't leave a comment. =(

Friday: College tour for Reagan. He will be going to our local community college to get the core classes out of the way (and save money since he can live at home and the courses are cheaper) and then he will be transferring to a 4 year college. As for what college, that decision hasn't been made yet. 

See my hubby in the green shirt? He is 40 pounds lighter! No pics of me, but I am also about 20 pounds lighter! Whoop!! How are we doing it? The old fashioned way. We count calories and  make wise food choices. I write down every thing I put in my mouth. My favorite app for that is My Fitness Pal. 

This week Reagan's Mock Trial team is going to state. We will be going to cheer him and his team on. Can you tell he is playing the part of a professor? 

My Haley asked for some pillows for her couch. The fabric she chose from my stash just screamed modern quilting, so that what I did. This is one of the two I have gotten finished. I have two more to go. Orange has never been one of my favorite colors, but I am really loving it with this blue. 

Mitchell is on the farm for a few days. He is helping with the lambing. =) He loves the farm and was planning on spending all spring break there, but mock trial interferred. He is an alternate so he has to go. It will be a good experience for him, but I do feel bad about him missing time at the farm. There is always this summer, though. 

This is what I have gotten done with my Jilly fabric. The Dresden's are huge!! 20"! I had enough to make 3 plates, so the decision is to make a desk topper where I have my computer. Did I ever mention that I moved my computer and office up to my sewing room? Well, I did, so this will be where I can see and enjoy it often. I am thinking about adding another boarder so I can make the edges scalloped. 

I meant to crop out my feet in this picture....

And lastly, some sad news....Lucas and his mom have moved back to WI, so I won't get to see my little Mister very often.

Well...That was easier than I thought it would be. =) 

I decided to use vintage sheets. 

 I didn't want to put binding on the seat cushion cover, so I sewed it right sides together and turned it right side out through the zipper opening. 

Using piping on the edge would be cute...

The only zipper I had on hand that was long enough was purple. It works for me! 

Well...That was easier than I thought it would be. =) 

I decided to use vintage sheets. 

 I didn't want to put binding on the seat cushion cover, so I sewed it right sides together and turned it right side out through the zipper opening.

Floor model + rebate cash = $7 dollar chair. Sweet! 

I like it to be a bit taller when I sew, so I added a chair cushion to get that extra height. 

It's a disgusting chair pad. 

My goal for today....Attempt to alter the zippered pillow pattern and make a new cover for it. 

The hardest part for me is picking out what fabric to use...

Quilted Pillow: A Pinterest Project

After doing a large project, I like to do some small, quick projects. I've been admiring all the great pillows out in blogland and on Pinterest. 

I found a cute pillow on Pinterest which lead me to Sew We Quilt for the tutorial. I should have known because Sew We Quilt is full of great tutorials. 

I hope to get it done today, but right now, I need to give one of my dogs a bath. Lets just say, it's not good....

On our trip last weekend, I found a full/queen size down comforter for $9. It was in pristine condition. Its cold here in Iowa, and to help with the heating bills I the thermostat is turned down to 60℉ at night. A comfy down comforter is welcome on our bed to keep us toasty warm. 

I dug through my vintage sheets, chose 3 pink ones that were 100% cotton (I like the crisp feel to them)  and made a duvet cover for it. I didn't have enough Velcro to use for the closure, so I chose to make ties out of the extra fabric. I like the look better. 

Not bad for just winging it. =)
