Happy Saturday!

March 31, 2012

While we were in Des Moines for the Mock Trial regional competition, we hit a few thrift stores and quilt stores. These are just a few things that found their way home with me. =)

Lamb planter

Milk Glass Table set. Notice it comes with a saccharine jar. Remember when saccharine looked like little pills?

Small shaker (salt or pepper) prayer lady.

Feather pillows. One is vintage.

A few things from the quilt stores. Love the circle pattern by American Jane

Vintage pillow cases. Love the bluebird one!
As for the Mock Trial competition, the kids did very well! I believe this was their first time going to state. They were placed 7th out of 32 and won a very prestigious award called the Judge Anthony Critelli award.

Now it's time to get back to some laundry and a wee bit of sewing. I am making a surprise for a friend. Who that friend is needs to be a secret for now. =)

Friday: College tour for Reagan. He will be going to our local community college to get the core classes out of the way (and save money since he can live at home and the courses are cheaper) and then he will be transferring to a 4 year college. As for what college, that decision hasn't been made yet.

See my hubby in the green shirt? He is 40 pounds lighter! No pics of me, but I am also about 20 pounds lighter! Whoop!! How are we doing it? The old fashioned way. We count calories and  make wise food choices. I write down every thing I put in my mouth. My favorite app for that is My Fitness Pal.

This week Reagan's Mock Trial team is going to state. We will be going to cheer him and his team on. Can you tell he is playing the part of a professor?

My Haley asked for some pillows for her couch. The fabric she chose from my stash just screamed modern quilting, so that what I did. This is one of the two I have gotten finished. I have two more to go. Orange has never been one of my favorite colors, but I am really loving it with this blue.

Mitchell is on the farm for a few days. He is helping with the lambing. =) He loves the farm and was planning on spending all spring break there, but mock trial interferred. He is an alternate so he has to go. It will be a good experience for him, but I do feel bad about him missing time at the farm. There is always this summer, though.

This is what I have gotten done with my Jilly fabric. The Dresden's are huge!! 20"! I had enough to make 3 plates, so the decision is to make a desk topper where I have my computer. Did I ever mention that I moved my computer and office up to my sewing room? Well, I did, so this will be where I can see and enjoy it often. I am thinking about adding another boarder so I can make the edges scalloped.

I meant to crop out my feet in this picture....

And lastly, some sad news....Lucas and his mom have moved back to WI, so I won't get to see my little Mister very often.

That's all I have to say about that...

Talk to you all soon!!

Thank you, Jilly...

Dearest Jilly....

The package came!

Ignore my messy cutting table. I am working on a project for my daughter and it's taking over for the time being....

Your generosity is overwhelming! You sent so much fabric!!

Curved fan blades! I can't wait to get started on making some Dresdens!

I love this yellow and roses fabric....

The blue is to die for...

I love them ALL!!

I'm going to make a new quilt to hang up on my sewing room wall out if it. =)

Thank you, Jilly, from the bottom of my heart....

Your kindness overwhelms and blesses me....

Your friend,

Recovered...

March 19, 2012

Well...That was easier than I thought it would be. =)

I decided to use vintage sheets.

I didn't want to put binding on the seat cushion cover, so I sewed it right sides together and turned it right side out through the zipper opening.

Using piping on the edge would be cute...

The only zipper I had on hand that was long enough was purple. It works for me!

Recovering...

A new chair for my sewing room.

Floor model + rebate cash = $7 dollar chair. Sweet!

I like it to be a bit taller when I sew, so I added a chair cushion to get that extra height.

It's a disgusting chair pad.

My goal for today....Attempt to alter the zippered pillow pattern and make a new cover for it.

The hardest part for me is picking out what fabric to use...

Happy and Sad...All at the same time...

March 17, 2012

I had a mini Christmas yesterday! Michelle and her darling hubby, Louie, were in town junkin'. We had a very enjoyable meal out together. We have so much fun with them. =)

Michelle has such a generous heart. Look at the loot she brought over for me! Yes, pink Pyrex! Along with two cute vintage looking napkins and, on top of all that, 11 1930's fat quarters!!

Seriously!

Before she left, she was showing me her loot from the day and she said that she wasn't sure she wanted to keep this sewing chest/stand. It was only out of the kindness of my heart *cough cough* that I had to take it out of her hands for her. I mean, what else could I do?

It's perfect to store my long arm stuff in it. =)

Thanks, Shell!!

I got the second colored blocks baby quilt pieced together. I'm still debating on a whether or not to add a boarder or just go ahead and bind it. I am leaning towards no border and binding it as it is.

With the beautiful weather we are having, Russ and I went on a short bike ride to Mt. Vernon. It was a wee bit too windy, so the ride wasn't as enjoyable as it could have been. Still, it was nice being in the town were I grew up and seeing familiar, and not so familiar places. One big change is the old middle school, where I went to school, is now open for shops and is a community building. It was so odd to walk around and remember when I would roam the halls with my classmates. I could remember what room I was in where we had study hall and I got in trouble for *gasp* chewing gum. That was a big deal way back then.

Moving on...I was wandering around in the antique store called Room 222, when I saw this....

It's a film can. About 8 inches in diameter.

What is the big deal, you ask??

Well, the big deal is my mom painted this Kodak film can. Those are her strawberries!! There was no way I was going to leave it there. I held it up to show Russ and he simply stated, "Your mom painted that." I nodded. I can spot her style of toll painting anywhere...However, this was the first time to find something she painted in a shop. I have to admit, it shook me up a little. I was in my home town where I grew up and already the memories were swirling and then to find something of my mom there, well, it's made me feel a bit sad...

I miss my mom....

A long time ago, I used to write a meme about my memories of my mom. I think I need to go back and re-read them....Someday, but not now.

Someday...

Have a great Sunday, friends...

Camera Case #3

March 15, 2012

Since I lost my other camera case and I was in the mood to do a quick and easy project, I made a new one.

Pattern found via Tipnut. Love that site!

*Thinking of a blog title is hard work*

March 14, 2012

Spring has really sprung here in my neck of the woods and you won't hear me complain. I love Spring and I love warm weather. I fully expect my daffodils to begin to bloom this week. Maybe even tomorrow!

I began the machine quilting phase of this quilt. I am leaving the white blocks along for the hand quilting phase. I am excited to get to that part. =)

I found the backing fabric on clearance yesterday. Gotta love that!

And I splurged and bought a yard of Woodland Trails lamb green fabric. The whole line is adorable, but I HAD to have the lambs for sure.

Have a great rest of the week!
