Blogging break...Quilting break

May 24, 2010

Vacation is looming and I am not ready. I need to get off the computer and get busy.

When I get home, I will be checking out the awesome contributions to Amy's Quilt Festival.

New hairdryer, new toe polish, new shoes and new fabric heading to  my house soon...

Do you go through color phases in your life, too?

Mr. Bigs

May 21, 2010

Holden, my oldest son, moved back home for a while. He brought with him his "baby" Mr. Bigs. Do not let this innocent face {with the scary eyes I don't know how to fix} fool you...

Mr. Bigs is dangerous

Very dangerous..

He is a plant killer!

So far, he has broken off iris buds, flattened several day lilies, and smashed the {I don't know the name} flowers.

It is a very good thing he's cute. {grin}

Blogger's Quilt Festival

Thank you, Amy, for hosting the Blogger's Quilt Festival. I look foreword to seeing everyone's contributions, though I fear I won't get to see them all until after my vacation, but I will try! I do have my priorities straight. {silly}

The quilt I am sharing is one of the first ones I made almost 2 years ago now. I followed Lady Havertine's Confetti tutorial. I loved the randomly placed brightly colored squares on a crisp white background of her quilt.

The brightly colored fabric in the body of the quilt was from my mom's stash that was given to me after she died. I believe they were samples, and never one to pass up a freebie, they were probably given to her and that's why she had them. That's the only explanation I can come up with because they are {so} not her style. They are mine, however, and I am thrilled to see them all together in a sweet baby blanket.

I Will Carry You

This is a book I've been looking forward to reading and dreading at the same time. Grief is hard work...

Tula Pink

May 19, 2010

A jellyroll of Tula Pink's Plume....

Isn't it delicious? {sigh}

And it matches the new {RSS} button and the {Twitter} button in my sidebar. {double sigh}

Sweet, huh?

School is out for summer!

Yeah! One more year of school is finished! Woot! It feels so good to finally be done, even though the boys did all the hard work. I've spent most of tonight ordering their next year's curriculum.

When are your kids done with school?

Trust in God

May 17, 2010

"God might bring deliverance that saves you from your present difficulty,
but He might not.
You don't trust in deliverance;
you trust in God."

~ Ed Welch, When I Am Afraid: A Step by Step Guide Away from Fear and Anxiety

This book is on my "must read" list.

Another finish

Now you see them....

Now you don't!

Doesn't he have a great smile! It was pouring rain, so we had to take the second picture in the car.

Ahhhh...

It feels so good to be sewing today....❤

Thoughtful Mother's Day surprises

May 9, 2010

 A "vintage" card from Reagan.

A card with sheep from Mitchell.

I'm not too sure which puppy thought I needed an expired baby bunny, but I appreciate the thought.

Have a great Mother's Day!

Women's Retreat

May 6, 2010

A fun weekend ahead! Over 20 women from my church are going to a camp for a short retreat. I expect there will be lots of laughter, some tears, time to pray, time to learn more about one another and grow in our love for each other. I promised Judy there wouldn't be any emotional crying times. In order to keep that promise, I may have to leave the building for I'm sure I will cry at some point. I tend to cry at church or when I am with my church family.

Oh, did I mention there would be FOOD there, too? My contribution: Laurie's famous chocolate cookies. There are the best chocolate cookie in the world! I'm starting my diet on Monday. {wink}

Crazy busy...

...and no time to sew. Soon, I hope.

My latest fun finds

May 4, 2010

I'm starting with my favorite. :-D

We had this same high chair, except for the print, at my home growing up. I have a newer high chair for when kids come over, but the thing is huge and takes up so much space. This one is cuter and folds up for easy storage. This one is staying and the other is going to go...Somewhere.

I am so impressed with the condition of it.

For those too young to remember, this is a telephone. I wish they still made toys like these.

Cute vintage sheets. I need to start making something out of the ones I have.

Of course, I had my eye out for Pyrex. I love the pretty cups. I restrained myself and only bought one of each pattern. Someone else will be happy to find the other ones, I'm sure.

Isn't this a cute set?

Something has got to go

May 1, 2010

Look at the pitiful plastic pouch my Juki's feet and accessories came in. It had to go!

Now isn't this {sew} much cuter! Not bad for my first project on Miss Juki. I {heart} this machine! And, it came with a zipper foot. Cool!

My heartfelt thanks go to:

Dawn @ Dawn's Quilt Corner, for posting her success at making zippered pouches. I was encouraged by her post to give it a try.

~ Skip To My Lou and twelve22 for their wonderful detailed tutorials on how to make zippered pouches.

I am always in awe at the generosity of those in the blog-sphere who share their talent with the world.
