Our living room, stair way and upstairs hallway are in the process of getting a long over due fresh coat of paint. It's been at least 5 years since we painted and at that time I was on a kick of painting the ceilings a color instead of ceiling white. I won't do that again! We have a little more painting to do and a ways to go to get everything hung back up on the walls, even so, I like it so much better! We chose to paint the walls a warm white. Lambs wool white, to be specific. I can't wait to get started with making new pillow covers to dress things up with pops of color.

Living room before...
Living room ceiling is painted. Getting ready to work on the walls. Floor needs refinished, but that is a long ways away from getting done.
All finished except the cut in work by the ceiling.
All that is left is to paint in the ceiling and these two walls on this side of the room.
Maybe...Maybe we can leave a wall open enough for me to hang a quilt up somewhere in the room. That will take some doing because I don't have a lot of wall space to play with, but we are going to try.
I'll update when we get it finished and the room settled. =)
Looks great Amy. All my walls are white or a gray/white. We haven't painted in years. All the color in my home comes from 'things'. It's easy to patch too, because the spackle blends right in! It looks so much brighter, but I know it is a big job. So happy for you.
ReplyDeletePaint always makes the walls look fresh and you wonder why it took so long. Then you look around and realize it makes other things look like they need a spruce up too. I do like a bit of color on the walls but my ceilings have to be white (baseboards too).
ReplyDeleteDo you hire out? We have a ceiling that is open from my back door through the living room down a hall. It is almost 20 feet long. I know it is a job, but you will be thrilled when done.Chris
ReplyDeleteIt's looking great! Myself, I'm done with white after 15 years of life, except on ceilings! I chuckled when you said it's been at least 5 years, our upstairs has been Navajo white (very dingy) for 20+ years - I so very much dislike it. So when you're done at Sewing Junkie's (hehe) you come to my house too :)

ReplyDeleteAfter living with "Navajo White" in rented homes and teacherages for years, I was thrilled to add some color in my first home. Then I went back into teacherages. When I bought this home 11 years ago, I chose mostly white ceilings but was thrilled to have pastel walls. The ceilings are getting dingy, but I still love the soft pastels on the walls. When I repainted the fireplace mantel, I realized the walls could use refreshing too--but with vaulted ceilings throughout the house, I'm going to keep postponing. You've done a wonderful job, and I can hardly wait to see the rest.
Looks wonderful - I don't dare paint, everything will have to be replaced, the carpet will look awful and so will the furniture once it's freshly painted, lol. Your home is lovely!

Soon. Maybe after the holidays...I never procrastinate. Never.

Great job. When I first moved in here I painted the master bedroom--it hadn't been painted in 20+ years, touched up the formal living room paint, and all of the trim, and painted the bathroom trim. I have put my touch on the house but there are so many more rooms that need to be "fixed". Those are my winter projects. :)
ReplyDeletepaint is amazing. we transformed a dark paneling in our new mobile into a light gray modern color with pops of black and everyone comes in and goes WOW this is NICE. brightens up the place.

How appropo is your paint color name! The lighter color makes everything bright and new and highlights your lovely vintage pieces. Great choice! Noticed you have a piano...do you play? ReplyDeleteDarker color may look cozy, but there's nothing like light colors to cheer a place up. It looks very nice - especially the living room. The light colors really bring out the wood tones in the furniture and floor and show them to their best effect. Hope you get to hang a quilt. I can sympathize on the limited wall space problem. :-)
