Fun Saturday

March 14, 2010

Rutabaga's Canoecopia was this last weekend. Rusty went up on Friday with some friends. I drove up with Naomi, a friend from church (who doesn't seem to mind that I could be her mother), on Saturday. Naomi and I spent a couple of hours looking around.  She at the kayaks, and I focused on buying the things I specifically came for, wicking t-shirts and some new Chacos {my feet are stylin'}.

Then the fun began. Naomi and I booked outta there and checked out the Goodwill stores! Woot! They have some super nice Goodwill stores in Madison. All the clothing was organized by color and size!! I was able to find some cute tops for this summer.

Okay...

Enough of that...Time for me to get to the point.

Look at these wonderful Fire King dishes in the Fleurette pattern I found! I gasped out loud when I saw them sitting on the shelf. I debated about a nano second on whether to just get one of each or the whole set....I'm glad I bought them all. I'm going to keep an eye out and see if I can collect more pieces off the set.

Two of the cups are smaller and more dainty. Its kind of hard to see by the picture, but the one on the left is smaller and different from the one on the right. I am assuming the smaller ones belong to the snack tray set.

Another treasure I found was this beautiful blue Pyrex divided dish with the lid. The color makes me happy.

Naomi and I have big plans to travel around to other cities to visit their Goodwill stores and other thrift shops. It's fun having a friend who loves to go as much as I do. :o)

You know? It's almost scary how much I am like my mom sometimes.

Pinwheel sampler quilt

Rachel posted the tutorial for the 4th block in the Pinwheel sampler quilt.

Part of me wants to give up....At least I am stretching myself and trying something new, right??

{sigh}

Pinwheel sampler quilt

March 12, 2010

I finished the first block in the tutorial in Rachel's @ p.s. i quilt Pinwheel sampler quilt along. I didn't think I was going to like this block, but after it was all made up, I really, really like the way it looks!

I did several rounds of seam ripping to get them to look perfect close enough to be acceptable. The seam ripper is my friend...Just sayin'.

Now I'm all caught up and ready for the next challenge...I think...

Pampering a new mom

One of the things I love about being a stay at home mom, is to be available when a dear friend is hurting and needs help. My dear friend, Casey, is a new mom of baby number two and life got overwhelming for her. What a gift it is to be able to say, "Drop everything! Come over, let me pamper you and help you with your little ones." Maybe I can talk her into taking a nap. :o)

Oh, she's here! Gotta run!!

Pinwheel sampler quilt

I finished my second block, but the third block in the Pinwheel sampler quilt along...Follow?? :o) I have my third block to make, but it's really block one. I just confused myself....

I do agree with Rachel, this one is pure cuteness!

And, it was hard!

I did a lot of seam ripping. They aren't perfect...

Yes, I need to get over it....

Pinwheel Sampler quilt along...

Rachel@psiquilt, is hosting a Pinwheel quilt along and I decided now was as good as time as any to try my hand at learning how to make blocks with *horrors of horrors* triangles! They have petrified me from day one when I first decided I wanted to learn how to quilt. In fact, I had decided I would only make quilts that comprised  of rectangles and squares...But then Rachel happened. She started her Pinwheel Sampler quilt along and I fell in love with the look of the blocks she was willing to teach "me" how to make. I felt rude ignoring her invitation to join in, so yesterday I began (with much trepidation, fear and trembling) to make my first pinwheel block.

If this is the only one I learn to make, I am already impressed with myself. *wink* My fabric choice for the sampler is Nostalgia by Moda.

MacHeist

There is still some time (less than 15 hours) to get in on the new MacHeist nanoBundle2.

My sewing room OR I've taken over the living room

March 9, 2010

I thought I would share a peek into my sewing room/ living room. I love looking at sewing rooms on other blogs and one day, I hope to have a real room that is mine, all mine.

I like to look at my projects to see how they speak to me. The Confetti quilt top may or may not be done, thus it's sitting out for me to look at and to "talk" to me. No, I don't actually hear voices. The sheets piled on top I picked up at Goodwill last night. To the left is the Disappearing Nine Patch I began way back when and I haven't finished it. I'm thinking about using the red gingham checked sheet on top for the backing.

I love the quilting table that Rusty helped me make a year ago. Last, but not least is my sewing machine, a Viking Platinum 770. I purchased it second hand from a gal who upgraded to a Viking Diamond.

On my pressing board is the pattern for a purse I am going to make for Haley. I need to take her shopping with me (via text pixs) to pick out the fabric.

Here is my office area.

I love my vintage Kleenex box.

Most of my fabric stash. The bottom tub is full of sheets, some vintage, some not. I don't have a lot of fabric stash, which is good. I have very little place to store it, though, I'm sure I could find places around the house if I really needed to. There is always room for fabric, right? I leave my vacuum out all the time because I like to toss stuff on the floor while I sew, so I vacuum a lot...

Some more fabric and supplies.

My goal this spring/summer, is to repaint the room a warmer color. The green isn't cutting it for me. I also want Russ to make shelves to put up above my windows for me to put my Pyrex finds and other fun stuff I've found to display.

Thanks for stopping by. I would love to see more sewing/quilting/crafting rooms so leave me a link to show me your room!
