The plan: I am going to give it to the family I made it for, along with another baby quilt I made. I can't show that one because I am going to be sharing it on a future blog hop. =) It feels like a win-win. This one will be used and cherished, even though it's not perfect.

I bet this quilt is the one the child loves most; it will be the one the momma lets him drag around, be a lovey and pretty much have his way with the quilt. Momma will keep the other one for good.
ReplyDeleteI must say I really like the sentiment on the corner.... I might have to "borrow" that idea for a baby quilt I will be making for the newest grand-baby coming in November.
I will say I think it is best to pre-wash all fabrics in general. I have been getting more dye cast off especially the dark colors. I dislike the chemicals used to produce fabric (formaldehyde among others) and do not want to be exposed to them. I find my allergies bother me less when I work with pre- washed fabrics. I pre-wash all fabrics before they go into the stash.

Try soaking the baby quilt with bleeding through in Biz overnight. Then rinse well.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely quilt. Sharon above suggested soaking, someone else recently had that problem too. I think that they also included a few sheets of those color catchers too. Love the quilt though.

ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! I'm so sorry the color ran. I, too, would be heart broken. But even with that it is adorable and the recipients will love it. I've got a quilt on the to-do list with a chocolate background. What would you do different next time in working with dark colors?

ReplyDeleteSo frustrating. Happened to me with a baby quilt I made for my own baby girl! I used red flannel on the back, but I had prewashed it a couple of times, and threw in a dozen (I think) color catchers to boot.

What a lovely quilt...sad about the stains...I use the color catchers and they have always worked for me...this quilt just looks so pretty, cute and will get a lot of "baby time"! Bet it gets well loved!!!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry. I've not had this happen before. I usually prewash any fabrics that concern me. Good thing, too, since I had some fabrics bleed over and over until I treated them with Retayne. That quilt isn't finished yet. Batiks seem to bleed really badly. Glad you will still give that cute quilt, so that it can be used. After tons of drool, what's a little dye in the seams? I bet the baby doesn't even notice anything other than the softness and love it brings.
ReplyDeleteEek! I've never even thought of a backing fabric bleeding through to the top. No wonder you cried. Honestly, I don't think it looks all that bad. From the pictures, it lends an almost denim look/feel to the quilt. Probably not what you are aiming for, but it's still pretty :)
