Iron one: Temperature quilt

I am all caught up! I have decided to make mine with an 18 x 21 (or 22) grid, so every 18 days a new row gets added to the quilt.  Warmer weather has finally arrived here in Iowa. My gardens are cleaned out and we can finally take walks again. Very soon, more yellows and oranges will be able to be added to my quilt which makes me very happy!

Iron two: Pretty Petals 2.0

I finally dove in and cut the fabric for the Pretty Petals 2.0 quilt. I love how the colors look together. I was worried that I wouldn't like it as much as my first one. I like it just as much and maybe even more! It's been fun seeing it all come together. 

Iron three: Sew Sweet Bee Pinwheel Star

Last, but not least, I received the last Sew Sweet Bee block from Dori @ redfeedsack. Actually, she sent me two, along with some sweet scissors and a pin cushion. *love* As soon as the sashing fabric I ordered arrives, I can begin to plan on how to put it all together. 

Iron four: Ombre Gems Quilt Along

No pictures, but I am all caught up and making progress. I still haven't trimmed them yet. I decided to wait until they are all made. They are so pretty! I am glad I didn't talk myself out of making this one.

Karen @ Where Is My Seam Ripper shared with me her idea of using spreadsheets to get organized, so I spent several days creating several that I have found to be quite helpful. You will find the links at the bottom of this post. I have never shared links to files before, so if you have any trouble downloading them, please let me know. 

I labeled baggies with the temperature and put the fabric name inside to keep it all organized. After I get caught up, I will make squircles and cut squares ahead to have ready to go. 

I chose to make my quilting with squircles (high temperature) appliqued on squares (low temperature). You can find an example of how I make the squircles on my Dresden Plate Mini tutorial. 

Because I am three months behind, I set up a system to get caught up faster. I chose one temperature squircle to work on and found the days where it was the high temperature. I got out all the low-temperature squares out and dated them. After the squircles were made, it was glued to the square and set aside until I could get it appliqued. I have a spreadsheet for that, too. Again, you will find all the links to my files at the end of my post. 

Making progress!! I hope some yellows, oranges, pinks, and reds show up soon!!

The Ombre Gems Quilt Along is in full swing, but it's not too late to join. You can find all the information on Emily's blog Quilty Love. Normally I get overly excited with a quilt along and jump ahead, but this time I am not going to do that. I am not 100% confident with making these blocks and I am waiting for the tips Emily will be sharing when it comes to trimming these blocks. Due to the shape and the odd math that is created with how they were constructed, they won't trim to an exact number. They will have to be trimmed "close enough." This is way out of my comfort zone!! In fact, I almost backed out of doing this quilt along because of it, but I am forging ahead and I am going to try to allow them to be what they are. Feel free to remind me if I forget that close enough will be good enough, please. *smile*

A project I have in the planning phase is to recreate a Cotton Creek Mill shop sample I made 3 years ago. I still love it to this day!! The pattern I used is the cover photo for the book Vintage Vibe by Amber@Gigi's Thimble with the fabric Fresh Cut by Basic Grey. I am going to attempt to recreate the shop's sample using a mix of Fresh Cut and the new Basic Grey line Meraki. I sorted the fabric last weekend, figured out some math and now I am letting it sit. I am not quite ready to commit and  cut into the horded beloved Fresh Cut fabric yet. 

Have you seen the temperature quilts that are being shared on Pinterest, Instagram and blogs?? Just do a search and you will find them. I heard about them in January, but was not in a place where I felt like I could make one. Of course, seeing people update their progress has made me regret that earlier descion and now I want to make one, too!! I began some research last night and was able to find a way to get all the temerature data for my area since January 1, so I could join in even though we are in April.  Or I could start in May and run it until next May. As you can see, I am still processing and planning. =)
