At this very second, I am sitting in my sewing room...My happy place, as I like to call it and the only sound I hear is my typing, the hum of my computer and an occasion car driving by.
I love the silence...I need the silence. =)
Our hotel room |
Getting home from our trip was a wee bit tricky. We ended up having to stay in Chicago Sunday night. We had a two hour delay at La Guardia that caused us to miss our connecting flight in Chicago. I was running on 7 hours of sleep over two days. By the time I got home yesterday, I was exhausted. I got unpacked, the laundry started and I hit the sheets to grab some zzzzz's. Today is a new day. I am well rested and ready to go!
The picture is goofy, but I thought the sink was so cool! |
Over the next few days, I will journal about my trip and then I will get back to my regular sewing and stitching posts. I don't want to forget anything! AND I will get back to reading and commenting on your blogs as well. I have missed reading and seeing what you have all been up to.

As I reflect on our trip and share our experiences with the kids and friends, some observations come to my mind...
~ It's busy every second of the day. You get no break from the noise and people. For this social introverted gal, it was overwhelming. I longed to get some time alone to recharge.
View from our room |
~ A lot of people smoke. I was surprised to see so many people lighting up. As a former smoker, I cast no judgement on that. It was just surprising to me, that's all.
Yet another view from our room |
~ I missed seeing trees. Russ found it very difficult to get his bearings. It was very stressful on my guy to not know which way was north at all times.
We were on the 28th floor and had two window views. |
Where we stayed. They were in the process of doing renovations to the lobby. |
Night life |
I'm glad you had a nice trip! I love the night photos you took. :)
ReplyDeleteAt least you went. New York is the one place I would be happy to stay away from. The first time I went to Vegas(at age 46), I too was shocked at the number of folks who smoked, and in the casinos. Smoke of any kind and my asthma just do not get along. I guess living in CA. where you practically can not smoke in your own home without a permit, has me spoiled. LOL
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to seeing your photos. I admire you and your husband for being up so high in your hotel.
blessings, jill
Glad to hear you made it back. Look forward to seeing more pictures!
ReplyDeleteUgh to getting stuck in Chicago! I LOVE your room, and the view, wow I'm jealous now. All we could see out of ours was a NJ parking lot. *G* Love your pics and can't wait to hear more!
ReplyDeleteYou're right about needing to find a place to recharge, for us it was the hotel room at day's end. I imagine if we'd seen more of Central Park, that would have helped too. And you're right about the smoking - I thought there was a city-wide ban on outdoor smoking, but no, only in public places like parks.
I enjoyed looking at your photographs, especially the night time shots. Your comments remind me of our times in Washington, D.C. One can sure feel like Dorothy! "Toto, we're not in Kansas anymore!"
ReplyDeleteHi!!! I love the pic night life...look at the sunset!!!!Beautiful!!! Thank You
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! WHat a beautiful view!! So glad you had a lovely time, and I look forward to seeing more photos! xo Heather
ReplyDeleteLove your pictures!! Looks like your hotel room had great views. My husband and two of my girls went to New York for New Year's a few years ago.....you couldn't pull the one away from Time Square, loved the crowds, and the other almost need an anti-anxiety pill!! So glad you enjoyed your time, looking forward to seeing my picures and hearing more about your trip!

Great post! I was in NYC and loved walking all over! I took a Grayline tour which is always super informative and gives me ideas of what I want to go back to see more of. The smoking doesn't surprise me. There are 11 million people in that city; I read that 50% are on some type of anti-anxiety or anti-depressant meds after 9/11. Cigarettes are just another way to self- medicate and get through life without their loved ones or the fear of it ever happening again.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you had a chance to see NYC. It's on my bucket list. And glad you are safely home again. Thanks for sharing...look forward to more.
ReplyDeleteHappy Sewing!
Nancy
Gorgeous photos!! I can't wait to go to NYC one day!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you had a great time! Too bad you didn't have more time in Chicago to explore. It is a really neat city!!
ReplyDeleteWish I'd known that your were stuck in Chicago. We live about an hour from the airport, and you could have stayed with us instead of at a hotel. Glad you are back safe and sound.
