For weeks, all this quilt needed was the binding. What held me up was I wanted to make the edges of the quilt wavy with gentle curves. I agonized over how to do it for hours and days and weeks. Yesterday I decided my boarders weren't wide enough, and because it's a gift, messing it up was not an option! I settled for rounded corners, which I really love.
I think the Swoon block is a difficult block to quilt without using a long arm or without expert (i.e.: better than me) free motion quilting. I have seen some fabulously quilted Swoon quilts on line, all of which the quilting is way too advanced for little ol' me. I'm glad the straight line quilting looks just fine on this little lady.
I did some dense straight line quilting in the sashing. I think it gives the look of the quilt a little more something-something.
The bride has been patiently waiting for me to get it done. I can't wait to give it to her!
Once again, I forgot to put a label on it. I am so bad at not doing that.
Do you label all your quilts or just certain ones? Do I dare admit one reason I don't is because I fear my quilts will end up at a Goodwill? I always feel sorry for the people who lovingly make quilts, slap a label on them and then they get sent to Goodwill. It makes me sad...

This quilt is just too gorgeous, girl - and the quilting is wonderful! I love how you added more dense quilting in the sashing. I'm going to have to try that. I really love the look. I've never tried rounded corners, love it, that's going on my list too.
ReplyDeleteI don't label the quilts I keep - I should - but all the rest I do. Even if it goes to goodwill, you should put your name on it. I have some vintage quilts I bought there, and how I wish they had names!

Amy I love it! I have the pattern to make my very own swoon quilt, but I just have not had time. I love the corners I think you need to do a tutorial. I would love to see how you do rounded corners. I always put a label on my quilts, because I want to know if my quilts go to Goodwill. But I also put the persons name that I am giving it to as well. Just this past week I found a table runner at goodwill that was hand made. I bought it before the person who made it could see it! It didn't have a label. I liked it anyway and it WILL be on my table!

Amy I don't put a label on mine because they go to family. For a special occassion as a wedding I maybe would. Looks great the way you quilted it. Looks more traditional to me. Chris

Amy, you did a great job quilting this. I think the straight lines really work with this quilt. Just beautiful. I noticed the denser lines in the sashing right away and I think that makes it perfect. Also, rounding the corners makes it more special/charming. I never put labels on. I don't have a good reason other than I'm tired of working on by then! LOL!!

ReplyDeletewow love the quilting, you're right the strait is prety something! Label.. yes now i label my creations for about a year now. My friends told me to do so and bought some cute label ribbon. I can't understant quilt going to goodwill... but my man always repeat to me ... do thing for the one you know they'll love it and cherish it because you made it. So many people don't understand the time you put in a quilt. well part of the fun is to make it and give it to someone we care put... when the someone's not glad... it always make me sad with a big punch in the heart! so .... i sell my things now and sew for my kids who are always so pround to use something mommy did for them!

ReplyDeleteI hope you will always label your quilts! Don't fear the Goodwill! Think of it as an opportunity for your quilts to be loved by someone who truly treasures your creations!
My late Mama bought a brand new red and white quilt at the Goodwill and she treasure it, both for it's stunning looks but also to honor the quilter who obviously spent hundreds of hours hand piecing, hand quilting and hand binding her work of art! I still have the quilt, which by it's signed label is over 30 years old.
I have often wondered if the quiltmaker is still walking among us and if she would have liked to have been reunited with her labor of love?
